  1. Agree with Kaz...hen...
  2. I'm going with them both being hens...
  3. One of the pitfalls of colony breeding.... I agree with Littlebudgie....

What sort of front is it? If it's the type with a large door in the middle with 2 smaller doors on either side, I think I've seen some pics of Kaz's where she's turned the front upside down so the doors open downwards and your nestbox opening would align with one of the smaller openings. Obviously you need to peg the other doors closed.... Kaz, correct me if I'm wrong....
  5. A couple more pics of my one and only chick!! There is quite a lot of blue coming through at the base of her back and on the front, it's just covered up by all the down, maybe sky blue... My guess is that despite how the photo of the mum looks, I'm guessing she is a light green recessive pied, split blue, and the cock is as Dean_NZ says - a golden face opaline dominant pied + clearflight pied cobalt, and the chick has missed out on the golden face part........ I'd be interested to hear anyone elses theories?
  6. Initially my budgies wouldn't go near any plates of veges that I put in for them. Then I think I read on here somewhere that if you sprinkle a little seed on what you're offering them (would probably work best on cut up bits and pieces?) it will make it more attractive to them. Then once they've got the taste for it...... I did this with mine and it worked brilliantly! I also left out their normal seed container for a few hours when I did it, so that they had to get the seed from over and around the veges. Good Luck.
  7. Wow! That's great!
  8. That was my thought as well! Unfortunate (unusual..?) to get 4 normals out of spangle parents!
  9. If it was me, I'd leave the male out and take your chances of the current eggs being okay, and any subsequent eggs being fertilised.....? Otherwise you may not end up with any!
  10. There's really not a lot of colour (if any) coming through at the moment!! I thought it looked like a recessive pied going by the orange beak.....
  11. I think those bottles look great! Innovative, cheap and effective!! Well done Linda_S
  12. That's what I understand. Also, cock is opaline, and the chick is a hen so has to be opaline!
  13. That was my guess, but for that to happen the cock has to be split for it, which I didn't know beforehand!!
  14. Here's the pics! I'm guessing this is one of those nestbox surprises everyone talks about!! First the parents: Cock Hen And the chick I'd be very interested to know what those of you with experience with chicks mutations think! My guess would be that the cock is split for recessive pied....? Any other thoughts?
  15. About all I can tell so far is the chick is opaline, judging by the white down (and the fact that it is a hen from an opaline father)! :hap: New pics soon - I promise!
  16. That's only when you're watching..... My prediction would be....surprises all round...... :hap:
  17. Double factor dominant pied.....?
  18. Chick going very well! At what age can you start to tell whether a chick is going to be dominant pied or normal, what would I need to look for..? :hooray:
  19. That looks really great!! Wish I had the time for stuff like that :hooray:
  20. Great photo!! Well Done!!
  21. No flash on the last photo
  22. How's this...
  23. Following on from Kaz's thread about sexes of chicks in the nestbox, I thought I'd put my one and only up for people to have a guess at.... The first is with flash, second without. I'm thinking hen..... :mallet:
  24. 1. You may be taller that me, but at least I have my own tail! 2. Whaddya think you're lookin' at stretch? 3. C'mon luv, giv' us a kiss....
