  1. This is my loopy hen, named Lady, who goes crazy when confined to anything under my large aviary size, unless she has a nest box to sit in. This is an old picture of her when she was doing her quarantine. She hasn't changed a bit and unless there is a box in her breeding cabinet she goes loopy She has 2 beautiful daughters from last round of breeding. One of her daughters is Angelica who was fostered to another nest at about a week old because Lady fell ill. Well Angelica has become as Loopy as her mum and does the cage flipping thing too. Its bizarre as she has never even seen an aviary yet, or lived with Lady to witness the bad behaviour so this says to me the behaviour must be genetic I have put her in my kindie cage and she is doing much better :bliss:

  7. I have Avitrol - works for me I'd go for that I should add though.... the avitrol wont treat the scaly face i believe - the bottle doesn't mention it. How bad is the scaly face. if its fairly minor you can treat it with cooking oil
  8. I mean with a needle I have seen birds that willingly swallow a tube without the feeder even needing to do anything other than hold it up - it's easy and clean. Many people use spoons with tiels too. :hap:
  9. Get bird mite and lice spray and spray the cage, toys and perches - might as well give the birds a spray too while you are doing it .
  10. I have used a crop needle a number of times now. I would not recomend Crop feeding for any baby unless they REFUSE food any other way. But a chick that young should take food straight off a spoon with out any issues
  11. Gorgeous!! Lauren looks so grown up. I love the pink in the Major Mitchell - very pretty
  12. I have to agree that the problems you are having is because your hen is too young Do you have another hen who is able to foster the babies? Where are you located, is there someone near by who can foster the remaining babies for you ? The kinds of losses you have experienced are not normal in regular colony breeding. This being her third clutch needs to be her last for many months. Once she is done with this clutch you need to remove the next boxes and stop the colony breeding until your birds are old enough to breed safely. You hen needs to be rested and given lots of good food to eat to help her replenish all that was lost from breeding. Your hen in this case may never be any good at breeding as she has developed bad habits that may not be able to be broken :hap: Good luck and i hope you don't have any more loss.
  13. Awwww - they are lovely and strong looking little babies
  14. that would be good, but that could encourage the poaching of the wild birds :hap:

  20. I don't believe Ivermectin will treat lice that doesn't consume the bodily fluids.... i may be wrong  I use a mite and lice spray for the little brown feather mites. Don't use powder, the sprey is much better on the lungs.
  21. Hens can sign and head bob too, but it is normally less than the males. My Latte sings quite sweetly
