Well done for getting the big ones. Lets hope the parents haven't finished teaching the babies how to hunt properly. I hope you get them all! Good on Ken for killing them when he is against it
  3. make sure you wear a good quality protective breathing mask when you do as the mould spores are bad for your lungs and could make you sick.
  4. I don't think its your screen MB... The straw looks like it is contaminated with mould. If you smell it and it smells anything other than sweet, then its no good. budgies are very sensitive to moulds and other toxins. there is also no need to have the straw down there either. I'd rake it up, toss it out and leave the floor as dirt/pavers. this will also reducing hiding spots for RATS!!! However, regarless of wether the staw is mouldy or not, mould did not cause the open wounds on the birds. I still think a RAT did this :hap:
  5. Sounds like rats :hap: haha SNAP Derek and MB
  6. Hello and welcome!! Its great to have you here There is another member here who has a bird with half a beak, but i can not remember who its is :hap: Their bird, if i remember correctly, is also doing really well - they seem to adapt to their situation well By the sounds of it your Spike is doing great, and the fact you know how old he is in DAYS shows your dedication to this little guy What conditioning food do you use??
  7. Hello and welcome. I am sorry for your loss :hap: When was the egg laid? Have you been able to see if its fertile by shining a light trough it and seeing if there are veins or masses inside? Personally i feel that the poor little egg won't have much chance without the hen as males don't do the incubating. Males also struggle to feed very young chicks, that is also the hens job. If your hen escaped the cat she may come back. Keep a close eye out - some have come back as long as 5 days after flying away. I hope it all goes well. Keep us posted. PS. a moderator will be by and will move your post and mine to a new topic, that way it's easier for people to find
  8. are you making your own dress???
  9. haha Thanks!! She is a rascal - The Bonds PJ's only come in stripes for some reason, but she has them in pink, red and she was modeling the purple ones today :hap:
  10. Good luck with your garage AV sounds like a great plan. :budgiedance: A shed is good too and it has an added bonus that you can take it with you if you move) We have a bigger shed which my hubby said i can have when we have finished the garage - Its about 3mx3m but i am taking baby steps and don't want to get in over my head :budgiedance:

Thats a great idea!! Once the car is turned off the fumes will clear and the hole can be filled in leaving the dead rat/s burried Just got to make sure the rat hasn't got any escape routs, especially ones that leed into other aviarys as the fumes could vent though and harm the birds. :budgiedance:
  12. Lovely flowers :budgiedance: I had white roses and freesias (my favourite) for mine. I am looking forward to all the photos of the big day!! have you arraigned a photographer...???
  13. Great! Thanks Daz! I will get my hubby on to that job - noisy power tools freak me out :budgiedance: The window will have to do on the side the faces the house as the shed is too close to the fence - we don't have neighbors on that fence either :budgiedance: .
  14. I feel it's a hen. The blueish tinge gets many people thinking its a boy, where infact it's a hen - a male's cere is pinky/purple :budgiedance: Male baby looks like this Baby hen looks like this
  15. Did your dead birds have any visible symptoms - did they have anyting in common?? Did they have poop on their feathers around their vent (bottom)?? Did they have stains in the feathers above the cere (nostrils) ??? Could you feel their breast bone being sharp or was it padded with some "meat" ?? Also A mouse getting into the food and contaminating it, can kill birds like that too. Do you have any photos of your setup and birds???
  16. Thanks so much Kaz and Daz Here it is It is quite sheltered as it has a fence on 2 sides, and its about 80cm from the side of our house too. As i said it has been storing junk which has included boxes of the kids old clothes and toys - it has kept it dry for a year and the clothes are not musty etc The pavers at the bottom show a touch of moisture (from the soil underneath), but otherwise it's leak proof My daughter Abby, thinks it would make a MUCH better cubby house I believe the tin cladding was put there to stop the dogs chewing the sides of the shed. The lights are not installed, but my hubby's dad is an electrition and will only take a moment to do as the power is already there I don't have any cabinets, and i don't think i would be able to get anything as flash as Daz's cabinet apartment block hehe. I will probably use wire breeding/flight cages, stacked on one another. I have a table that will fit in there so i can keep them off the ground. I will need to work out a way to attach the nest boxes firmly on the outside of the cages. I like the screen door idea - thanks Kaz I am bursting to breed BG and Lady - they are my first club pair and they will be my first cabinet pair too. I am very excited :budgiedance::budgiedance::budgiedance:
  17. land lords are meant to pay for EVERYTHING!!! including replaced light globes and tap washers! When we were renting we would just keep all the receipt then present them to the landlord every month or so, to be reimbursed $$$.
  18. Do you have any photos???
  19. Thats what i thought too! Our house is 3 years old, we bought it 1 year ago and there was no land line connected - not even a phone point inside VERY ODD I think! We had to pay someone to come and wire up the house. Phone is like power and water these days so why our house didn't have it i would not know
  20. I still have the breeding bug - it will not subside either!! so today i had a massive burst of energy and I completely cleared out our small shed which has been storing useless junk for the last year. The shed was used by the previous owners as a kennel for their two large dogs. it measures 180cm tall, by 140cm wide, by 180cm deep. It has a paved floor and rodent proof (smooth tin) cladding inside that goes 3 feet up the walls - it also has power I will post pictures tomorrow - It was too dark by the time i finished today I have read Daz's fantastic topic on bird rooms and found it very helpful, thanks Daz ---> Here I have a few added questions though.... 1) is the size suitable for 2-3 cabinets? 2) What is best way to provide ventilation? - I want to keep the warmth in, but also keep the air fresh. 3) Also what is the best way to provide light - i was thinking of replacing some tin with clear plastic sheets to allow natural light - or is it better to use broad spectrum lights??? 4) Do i need to heat in the winter - if so what kind of heating??? Any advice and tips are greatly appreciated
  21. What bummers!!!!! The agent has to be able to contact the landlord - they would in a flash if you didn't pay your rent or trashed the place (which i know you wouldn't do by the way) SOOOOOOooooo frustrating (((((hugs)))))))
