1. Hi, I was wondering what would be the best thing to put in the breeding box ? I looked on the internet a got various conflicting answers..... some sites said dont put anything in as the budgie would just toss it out,,,,another site said pine shavings,,,,,then i read that, for other pets like guinny pigs, pine shavings are dangerous because of the dust etc...... one site just said shredded newspaper,,,,another said pete moss..... so very confused...... what is the best ? thank you,
2. Yeah youre correct. I just called a few pet shops and they dont sell it as they said its not registered or something like that.. I called one avian vet...Glenside vet where Pin needham is, but they told me its used for cattle...they also said they wouldnt just sell it to me, as they would want to see the bird 1st.....which is obviously going to cost me a consultation fee......hmmmmm, im confused now.... well can anyone just give me a good brand name one that comes in liquid form, that a petshop would sell..... thanks jason
3. does anyone know where i can buy " Ivermectin spot on " in Adelaide....Would most pet shops sell it ? I assume its a liquid too ? Thanks jason

I put him outside today and was looking at him in the sun when i noticed a little brown looking thing crawling on his head...Not sure if its lice or not but was thinking of buying something for lice Ive seen lice medicine that comes in liquid and powder Which is better to use ? The powder or liquid ? also whats a good brand ? thanks Jason
5. My Budgies name is Gwapo . That means Handsome in Philippine language
6. Hi there. My budgie seems to only like to eat frozen peas and sweet corn... Im going to slowly try to get him to start eating Silverbeet and brocolli . Do i need to cook them , or can i give them raw ? The reason i ask is, i ate some raw silverbeet today and it left my throat feeling very acidy and uncomfortable. thanks Jason
7. Hello and greetings. I have a few questions please. I saw a post up here a month ago reagrding supplements that one member buys his birds.... Heres the link: supplements As you can see theres a huge list of things and obviously i dont want to go and buy all those things as im not breeding etc. I only have ONE budgie at home and he spends 95% of the time inside with me. I put him outside on nice days but hes under a verandah which is inclosed with shade cloth. I just want to buy a few things to keep his health good.... after looking at that other members list, i was thinking of , PROBOTIC, MOULTING AID , and SOLUVET . would these be fine ? also, do i need to buy something for insects as hes inside most of the time ? Also, a pet shop told me i dont need to worm him as hes kept inside and theres no other birds around...is this true ? basically he gets fresh seed and water everyday. Peas and corn every couple of days. ( thats the only veggies he eats) and Millet on weekends... I just wanted to buy a few necessary supplements that will keep him in top notch shape. on to another topic. when i got him as a baby, before i clipped his wings, he used to fly around the lounge room doing several laps regularly.......his wings have grown back now, but he seems to have no interest in flying around . why is this. sometimes he does a short fly a few metres but thats it. nothing like before. why do budgies get all fluffed up when they are talking or excited ? whens hes on my hand and talking he get all fluffed up and spreads his tail feathers. last but not least. whats another name for the peppermint tree which bugies supposedly love. Is a wheeping willow the same as a peppermint tree. Im in adelaide and cant seem to find any. thanks Jason
8. ummm, the breader i bought him from told me was a male, plus many people here said its a male.... here is a picture, of what it looked like when i got him. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd43/ja...00/DSC01077.jpg hes a few months older now
9. Hi there... i have a very tame budgie. He just under 5 months old, and just finished is 1st molt a few weeks ago........he also has just started talking too.....hes is a little bit bigger than the normal size budgie but hes not the real larger size type. Anyhow,,,he loves to sit on my shoulder and chat into my ears, but every now and then for no apparent reason he willl rush up to my neck and nipp me quite hard....he even tries to hold the nipp for a couple of seconds......... why is he doing this ? and will he grow out of it ? thanks jason
10. i Have no idea ? I assume it would have, if it was to be safe for humans ? Not 100% sure though
11. Hi there,, i reead this post the otherday about how some budgies died as they were kept in the kitchen..heres the link http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....ic=18743&hl= Anyway,,,, i just have a concern of my own now... My budgie lives in the my lounge room as i am there most of the time. As its starting to get cold, i have been putting on the heater ( gas ) in the lounge the past 2 days...... Is this going to be a problem for the budgie ? the cage is right on the opposite side of the room to the heater so hes about 6 metres away from it,,,,,but am still a little concern if this will be a problem for him ??? pls let me know Jason
12. Hi there, Ive read here before , that if you want your budgie to talk, dont let it hear or see other budgies? Well, i have 1 nice budgie at the moment, but saw this beautiful cockatiel the other day that i would like to buy. If i buy this cockatiel, I dont plan to put him in the same cage as the budgie, but i would like to know if it would be okay for them to be in separate cages in the same room ? ? WILL THIS STOP my budgie from learning to talk ? I assume that because they are different birds, they wont try and talk to each other like to 2 budgies would, so hoping it will be okay and not stop my budgie from learning to talk ? Advice appreciated jas
13. Hi there, just wondering if anyone knows of an avian vet here in Adelaide ? ? My bird is fine, I just would like to have a place known to me if i need one quickly in the future..... Ive been to this website which i found here, but there is no listing for South Australia ? http://www.vetafarm.com.au/avian_vets.asp?state=sa Thanks Jason
14. His name is "Gwapo" thats filipino for handsome....
15. Hi there, Can some one pls tell me what type my new budgie is ? I bought him from an elderly couple that have been breeding since the 70s. Hes a boy they told me, and was born on the 9th of December 07 Thanks Jason Pic1 Pic2 pic3 pic4 Also, as he a English / show budgie, the larger type, will he eventually get a puffy head like this picture below ? Example picture Thanks, Jason
16. Hi, i currently have a pet variety budgie which ive had for about 3 months, so hes about 4 and a half months old now..........I got another babie budgie ( show variety ) about 3 weeks ago, and he was around 3 weeks old when i got him........they have been separated all this time, and yesterday i brought their cages in the same room to see how they would react together..... they seemed to like each other and both rush towrds the edge of the cage and were trying to kiss it looked like..... ive read that if you want a really tame budgie and want it to talk, dont let it see other birds..... Ive decided to keep them separated from now on and not let them see each other, atleast until they are both very tame. My question is this.......will they remember that breif little encounter they they had with each other the other day, and will this slow the process of taming my neww baby show budgie ? thx Jas
17. Hi there, Dont know if anyone has seen this before, but i thought you might like to see if you havent... I found it on youtube. Its an amazing talking budgie,,,,,,,he has an evil laugh Enjoy,,,, JAS
18. Well, after lots of phone calls, i finally managed to track down the breeder of this bird........ I didnt speak with her directly as i went through the SA budgie council............ She told them that he was hatched in early October making him around 13 weeks old....Hmmm Still not sure if i believe that though as the 2 different ppl ive showed him to both instanty told me he was at least 8 months old........... One of the ppl who told me that is an older couple who have been breeding since the 70s and have a house filled with awards, and they are Judges also...................so if they claim hes that age i tend to believe them........... Anyway, i ended up buying a baby show budgie from them today,,,,,,,and hes so tame already,,,,,,,,,,,,,sits on my finger straight away.............ill show some pics of him soon,,,,, thanks, Jason
19. Thanks for all the replies every one............. Just got one more question........why is the cere on the bird still quite pink if its at least 8months to a year old ? Also, does anyone know of any breeders at this forum from Adelaide ? Thanks, Jason
20. Yeah, i knew that the normal small baby budgies had bars down close to the cere, but wasnt too sure if this was the case for the larger english budgies............I asked her why he didnt have the bars if it was supposedly a baby, and she told me that the larger english budgies dont have the bars down to the cere even when they are a baby. Is that true ? ?ThanksJasonHi Kaz,,,,,,,I had a look at the leg ring and it say SA NE <7 587 The < next to the 7 is meant to be a tringle on its side, but there was no symbol here to make a triangle.Hope that helps.....Jason
21. Hi there, I Went to the pet shop the other day just for a look, and ended buying an English ( show budgie ) as I fell in love with its colours, plus ive really always wanted and English variety.............The main only reason I bought it though, was it was meant to be a Baby...... The pet shop had a small cage at the front of the shop with 2 birds in it, and a big sign on the cage saying Baby budgies............... not knowing too much about determining the age of a budgie I quizzed the sales assistant about the bird. She was very addiment it was only 12 weeks old….. after doing my own research the past few months on the net about ageing budgies, she managed to convince me it was still young as the cere on the bird looked like a pinkish colour so I thought It must be around only 12 weeks old…………..
Once I got home I remember I forgot to get its wings clipped. Instead of going back to the same place, I found a bird shop ( not really a pet shop ) that only sells birds.
My 1st question for him was is it still a baby, and what was its approximate age. He told me it’s NOT a baby, its an ADULT bird, anywhere from 8 months to a year old. Anyway, here are some pics of him,,,,,,, would like to know what everyone else things about the age of him……. I really was convinced s young judging by its cere… pic1 pic2 pic3 pic4 P.S Does anyone know where I could purchase a BABY ENGLISH budgie here in Adelaide ? I was reading it quite hard to find a baby English budgies as breeders like to keep them for at least 6 months so they can see the potential of the bird for shows. Then they sell them off to pet shops. Then the pet shops claim they are babies and sell them to people who don’t know too much, like myself….. Thanks, Jason
22. Hi there, I got my fiest budgie about 7 weeks ago, and he was 5 weeks old when i got him.... over the last 7 weeks he began to start to trust me, but still a little scared i guess......... he freely flies out of his gage to come and collect gum leaves etc, but still doesnt really like sitting on my finger for too long....... Anyway, i went to the pet shop the other day, and saw this really beautiful budgie.its all yellow and has red coloured eyes........... its only a baby they told me, but hes soooo friendly.........hes in a small cage of about 25 budgies, and hes the only one that doesnt fly away when i pat him through the cage.......he nibbles on my finger, and is really nice........ he seems more friendlier than my other budgie which ive had for 7 weeks now, and vertially spent the whole day with him every day for 7 weeks Im really want to get this new budgie since hes so friendly and beautiful, but i read that getting a second budgie will slow, or even stop the bonding and talking with the 1st budgie i have......... But i was thinking, what if i got this new budgie, but put him in his own cage........... would that still stop the bonding/ talking with my other budgie, since they will be able to see and hear each other................. or is it only a problem if they are in the same cage ? ? advice needed pls....... thanks Jason
23. Hi there, I just have A few general questions regarding my new baby budgie. (1) I put him outside on our back porch every day so he can get some light and fresh air.... Ive been watching him through the window and he seems quite happy just sitting on his perch.... When i come outside and sit next to the cage, he starts acting a little weird..... he will jump down off his perch and will pace up and down the cage floor like hes looking for something, then occassionally bobs his head up and down...... hes not afraid of me as he runs near my hand also when i put it in the cage.... its quite funny to watch the way he darts up and down the cage floor........ Why does he do this.... ? i was thinking he is maybe showing off and trying to get my attention ? (2) Ive noticed also some times these honey suckle birds come into our back porch and land on his cage...... Ive tried to stop them by hanging clothes up around his cage but they still come....is this going to cause problems for my budgie.... i know they cant really attack him as his in the cage, but surely he must get stressed having these pest birds landing on his cage.... (3) whats the earliest a budgie has been known to say its first word or whistle ? obviously all birds are different, but just curious as to how fast it can be ? (4) The last couple of days ive also heard making these like barking noises..... what would this mean.... he doesnt do it very often..i guess when he hears other birds outside....... Thanks Jason
24. Thanks for the all the replies guys ! Youve put my mind at ease now....... Just wanted to make sure as i really wanted a male, which you all say it is. So thats good.... I guess he will make warbling noises when hes ready.... Thank you :sport:
25. Hi there, I put up a post yesterday asking if my new 1st baby budgie was a male ( i included a picture ) The 2 people that replied said they thought it was a male..... Now, since then I've been doing some reading regarding the characteristics regarding male and female behaviour ...... I read that males tent to make warbling, burbling noises, and females tend to make loud-ish chirping noises..... Now I've heard my budgie make lots of chirping noises, but no warbling or burbling noises...... so i was getting worried that it might not be a male....... or do they only make the warbling noises when they get older..... my bird is only around 5 weeks old.... i also read that females bite a lot more, and mine hasn't bitten me at all when i handle him......so im confused now of his sex.I'm hoping its male heres another picture to help you decided the sex again..im really hoping its a male See picture thanks Jason
