What Should I Feed A Young Budgie That's Recently Out Of The Nest&
Thanks a lot for the help! okay, I decided to take the perches out so it has to be on the floor and as soon as I did this he started to crack the seed on the floor (that I had put there for him). What a relief. I am going to get it some millet sprays. Harlequinlover Thanks, Harlequinlover

What Should I Feed A Young Budgie That's Recently Out Of The Nest&
Daz, In the past I used a crop needle on a parrot. Will a straw cut so there is a scoop at the end work the same as a feeding spoon? and do I give it egg and biscuit? How long do I soak the seed for so when it starts to try and crack it's own seed it's softer at first (as I haven't seen it cracking seed yet). Kind Regards, Harlequinlover

What Should I Feed A Young Budgie That's Recently Out Of The Nest&
Kaz, I've just applied a light pressure to the feathers (the long main flights and some of the tail feathers) by holding a couple and lightly pulling along the shaft towards the end), didn't actually tug but no feathers came out. There appears to be small flight feathers growing (just the main flights are much longer. His bottom is not poopy (looks normal and no sign of anything stuck to feathers), his poop is a pale brownish though when he goes. I think he is light on, just looking at him but he isn't making any noises like he's hungry and not down trying to eat the seed on the floor of the cage (mainly just sits on his perch). I've decided to soak some seed for him. How long do I soak it for in water etc. before I put it in the cage for him. Daz, I'm going into town to get some millet sprays for him but at the moment not showing any signs of interest in food. Harlequinlover

Daz, I think he's about 5 weeks approx. Strange thing though he has his main flight feathers which are long and the other flights all appear a lot shorter. Harlequinlover

Dominant Or Recessive Pied
Hi Mick&Deb, If buying a pair of recessive pieds it's best to get a recessive pied (is the coloured one) and a split recessive pied (looks normal but has a recessive pied parent) and look for ones that are a good size and type. If you breed two recessive pieds together I'm told that you reduce the size of your birds even though all babies will be recessive pieds. If you can't get a split recessive pied of good size and quality to breed the recessive pied to look for a good sized and type normal budgie of that colour series ie: Blue or Green to breed splits with to be bred to a recessive in the future. Kind Regards, Harlequinlover

My New Blue Dominant Pied Cock Bird
Kaz, Thanks, I thought so the guy is going over seas so was selling all his birds (have a yellow faced blue cock to pick up in a few weeks as his mate has young chicks atm so couldn't go yet). I think this fella is nicer though (getting the other one for his colour) and I think I got the dominant pied for a reasonable price too. Kind Regards, Harlequinlover

My New Blue Dominant Pied Cock Bird

What Colour Is This Baby Budgie?
harlequinlover replied to harlequinlover's post in a topic in Budgie Mutations, Varieties and GeneticsThanks, I bought it as a pet to hand train as have been told these runners are easier to do this with. I only paid a couple of dollars for it, it's flights are growing back (no not cut) and there was another from the same nest also running around but it had blood on it's chest (they were both quite active) because they climb the wire to get up high parts in the avery they came out of. The bird when I put my hand in it's new cage is also very active, squarks etc. and keeps trying to get away but after a while it sits on my finger. I doubt the person knew what the problem was for the moult as appeared quite unknowledgeable, I had to clarify that a harlequin was a budgie and their pet one has cinnamon on it's wings. okay so it's probably a double dominant pied (opaline) which sounds very likely as the person avery bred and had dominant pieds, clearwings and some others. I'll have to read up about french moult. Thanks again. Kind Regards, Harlequinlover

What Colour Is This Baby Budgie?
okay this will be my first attempt at posting pics here so if too large (please let me know how to rectify it) and if they don't work (all help would be appreciated). I bought a couple of budgies yesterday (these are all in quarantine) and this one was one of two babies running around the avery floor (felt sorry for it) so decided to get it as a pet (I'm sure it's a female so may end up not being a pet and later when can fly put in with some others) and am told it's been out of the nest about 3 weeks. So what colour would you call it? It's grey and white, head and side of head has some areas of the light bar markings. Sorry if pics are not good enough to tell thee markings. Kind Regards, Harlequinlover

Help My Birds Are Dieing!
Merry Xmas and have a Safe New Year. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those who gave me advice recently regarding my birds. It was greatly appreciated. The update is that after putting the birds on supher D and puting the worst 2 in a hospital cage, the birds all now appear healthier. The diahreah has stopped and the faeces look normal, the normal green that was all puffed up and not eating is now eating and more active. So far I have only lost the two best ones at the begining. Thankyou so much. Harlequinlover

Help My Birds Are Dieing!
okay the worst one is still alive and his stool is very watery (looks a light green as the white and green sections are mixing). Some appear to have normal stools and some have greenish on some feathers. I have PM'd you. Kind Regards, Harlequinlover PS the two I've lost were my best male (he was a normal large Grey, recently bought) and my good harlequin hen that I've had for 12 months and was just at breeding age

Help My Birds Are Dieing!
Yes it been caused because of a quarantine issue (we live and learn the hard way). One of the last birds I got and the one I've had the longest have died so far. I read the post about raspberry cordial and as not able to get an cocci medication tonight I decided to get some raspberry syrup (25% raspberry juice) and give it a try. Do you think this will do anything? (even if just a pick me up) Harlequinlover.

Help My Birds Are Dieing!
URGENT HELP!!!! My budgies are puffing up, appear to have soiled vents (faeces not normal) and dieing on me. It appears to be happening quite quickly. Have lost 2 of my best ones and another looks like it may be gone by morning. Some have normal faeces atm. I put them on an antibiotic Sunday night but that doesn't appear to be working. I'm thinking maybe cocci. I only had 10 budgies to begin with and have already lost 2 and I say more will go soon. What can I do? Harlequinlover
