  1. Just wondered if someone could tell me if I have splinted this chicks splayed legs properly. It is 10 days old and only noticed how bad they were today. Not having a good day with budgies today
  2. Overnight 2 eggs from our 2nd lot hatched (weren't due until Friday 16/11). There was a lot of blood in one of the discarded eggs and one of the babies was dead this morning and the mother isn't feeding the other one very well, it only has a small amount of food in it's crop. I have just checked again and another egg has hatched (2 more to go). Do I let her continue to try and feed them and hope she gets the hang of it or try something else? It is her first clutch she is 15 months and the cock is 13 months. My problem is that I can foster them to a fantastic hen, who feeds really well, but she already has 5 hatched from her own clutch. How many chicks is to many for her to have?
  3. I was at my girlfriend's house this afternoon and looking at her birds, seen this one. It's bottom beak appears to be sticking out and can't close it's mouth. It's still trying to eat but mainly sits on the perch with her eyes closed, panting slightly. My girlfriend said that the last bird she had in that cage the same thing happened to it and it died (I did speak to her sternly about putting another hen in the same cage). Does anybody have any ideas what it could be? That is seed husks stuck to the beak. I have told her to take it to the vet but bottom line is she gave birth to twins 3 weeks ago and her husband has walked out on her leaving her with 4 children under 3 and centrelink are holding back giving her any money until they have spoken to her husband who drained all their bank accounts. I will speak to my husband when he gets home to see about taking it to the vet myself. I don't think it will last the night though.

Yippee !!! Success at last, I put the leg rings on the eldest 2 yesterday afternoon, they were a tight fit and they are still on today. Now just have to wait until the other 3 are big enough....(Laughing out loud)
  5. Fifth one hatched this morning, so we got 5/5 not bad for her first clutch I didn't think. Mum is looking pretty ragged, seems to only be eating silverbeet mainly. I've put a millet spray in the nest box with her too.
  6. Very nice looking birds Norm, just as well you don't live to close to me...hehehe

Thanks Kaz, I tried that and 2 had the toenail that reached the bend in the leg so last night I put 2 rings on the eldest 2 after much wriggling and laughing at how awkward it felt and this morning I pulled the rings out of the box..(Laughing out loud) I guess I'll have another go tonight..haha
  8. I keep putting shavings in the bottom of the box but the hen just throws them all out.
  9. I just wondered if someone could tell me if this cock is a Yellowface type 2 blue greywing? He is currently paired with an Albino hen who is sitting on 5 eggs (sorry if that's not the correct pairing, my husband put them together as we are only breeding to increase our flock he wanted to experiment with colors?) Sorry they're not the best of photos everytime he sees me coming with the camera he goes and hides in the nest box.
  10. Just an update on our babies. 4 have hatched and 1 to go. All coming along very well and the Mum is doing a great job. Took this quick shot when Mum had finished feeding them after she'd had a huge feed of silverbeet, hard to believe that there is 4 babies and an egg all huddle in there....(Laughing out loud) This is the Mum and Dad - I'm supposing they will be all blue babies Mum - Violet Cinnamon Opaline Dad - Cobalt Normal

Don't worry Zebra, I only put on a small amount of weight with all 5 of my pregnancies. With the last one I only put on 1kg and when my son was born he was 5.050kg (11pound 2oz). The baby takes it's nutrients from your storages so don't worry the baby won't be going without. Thanks , I hope everything will be okay. I just don't feel like eating (and that's not normal for me) and my sister who is pregnant as well is eating the whole day long Depending on how far along you are, it is not unusual to not feel like eating. Different people react differently when pregnant. I could tell you not to worry but worrying is all part of pregnancy. Everything will turn out fine

I have tried to do a search to find this out but it keeps coming up error??? In the FAQ section it says to put them on between 8 and 10 days but I'm sure I have seen it on here that it says between 5 and 6 days? Which is right? My first baby was hatched on Saturday night and I'm not sure when to put the leg ring on.

  20. I like Humpty best! Love to see a photo??
  21. He is beautiful...
  22. Great photos
  23. Second one hatched over night and her 3 other eggs look good too. She is very protective it is hard to get a look to see if she is feeding them, but from what I can see they look good. I don't want her to go a second round so what do I do to stop that?
  24. His eyes are plum color. I will have to wait for her to contact me as she doesn't have a mobile and I have no way of contacting her. I may just take him to the vet to have the other one clipped anyway.
  25. I have had a few people here today so I ask what colors they thought were on the wings and the majority thought the spots were a darkish grey and the bottom tail feathers were cinnamon?? Definitely plum eyes. Very odd.
