Do Breeders Take The Hen Out?
It all depends on the birds... I only remove where necessary...

Youngsters
Glad to see you helped them through, they're adorable!!!

My Other Two
Millet won't soak up poop, but will make it messier and be a waste if it gets dirty as they won't eat... Try wood shavings
-
Fuel Prices
I haven't had a problem... but then again, maybe that's because I don't drive although I do feel very sorry for alot of people being affected by this.

More Babies
Make sure they have an ample supply of calcium in one of the many forms avaliable at all times. Seed and greens are good to supply along with fresh water... try maybe some form of soft food (egg and biscuit) if avaliable. Removing a nest box, especially one with babies or eggs is never a desired move, however luckily enough for you it seems to have worked out this time. I would suggest however you re-think your aviary set up and the types/amounts of birds you have in there together. Weero's and budgies can get away with being mixed in together, however finches and canaries should not be mixed in with these breeds. Glad to hear everything is panning out well in the end though, look forward to photo's.

My Other Two
Put nesting material on the cage floor and in the nesting box to soak up the moisture from their poos and minimalise the amount that gets stuck to their feet.

My Other Two
Very cute! You should be careful however handling babies even at that age outside the boundries of a cage, aviary, house as they can shoot up at any time even if you think they can't fly yet.

New Aviary Started Today! Yayyyyy!
Is that sand over the top of the concreted floor? Back in the day my aviary never used to be covered and we had sand over the paving.... as soon as any kind of liquid hit the poop on the sand it turned it to sludge and was a major breeding ground for bacteria... Looks great by the way

Mites
I thought coopex was extremely toxic chemicals ??? I was told to use it no where near any living animal as it's harmful?
-
His Colour?
Nope I don't think so... All of my fallows are the "german" kind with iris rings, but don't look like that... Not even the opaline ones
-
His Colour?
It would have to be an opaline with a very clear head AND body if it was just a normal opaline fluke LOL! I'm stumped, either way it's gorgeous though
-
Mites
I've had a bird with scaly face mites who was affected on the skin (eyelids) around his eye. Perhaps that's what is was? Was there a build up of matter around it?
-
His Colour?
The ring blends in around the eyelids, perhaps i'm crazy, but I definatly see one.
-
His Colour?
No iris ring :S? I see it plain and clear ??
