  1. shazzabess posted a post in a topic in What Sex Is My Budgie?
Just an update on Bobby. Was going to change his/her name to Betty but the decision has been made for us. She/he has started talking and is saying "hello Bobby" So Bobby it is. We are still calling it a he but will give him another month or two to see what happens with the cere colour before confirming the sex. We thought that if it was a girl that it would never talk. :dbb1:
  2. I looked back on the old posts and most of them also recommended soaking for a few days then drying so I'll give that a go. I went for a walk along a local beach yesterday in the rain and about 5 degree temp. But only found one lonely piece. Have got that soaking now and that will do "Bobby" for awhile. I will try the beach again next weekend.
  3. Is it okay to feed budgies cuttlefish found directly from the beach? :fear
  4. This is our last chance at getting our "boy" budgie, as there are no more babies to be found in our area. We have named him 'Bobby' so if he turns out to be a she we can still call it Bobby (short for Roberta). I will post some pics here of him to see what sex others think he might be.(Just in case we have got it wrong again). We have been told that he is a Blue Opaline.
  5. The person that we got her from said that we could return her if she was a girl so I have spoken to her and will be taking her back this afternoon. She willingly got on the back of my hand but then proceded to try and draw blood. Nibbling is okay but not full on deep biting. Looks like we will now have to wait for awhile until someone has some boys as we really wanted a "son". Thanks to everyone for your input and comments.
  6. I will post two more pics that were just taken (8.45 am). They were taken without a flash. The colouring in the pics is a bit brighter than the actual bird. It is quite pale. There is a breeder in the next town who has young ones still in the nest and she said if we wanted to wait for them she would get a couple out and start handling them for us to choose one. This probably the way that we should have gone but I was in a hurry to get one now.
  7. We are a bit disappointed that Bart may be girl as we had our hearts set on a boy. I have a friend in town who owns a pet shop so I might take her into her to have a look at and see what she thinks. How long before the true colours will show on the cere and we will know for sure?
  8. Several months ago we purchased two baby budgies from a market. The seller said she was sure they were boys but a pet shop owner confirmed that they were girls so she took them to sell as breeders. Yesterday we answered an ad in the paper and this seller had a few just out of the nest (I had spent quite some time on the phone the day before ringing around trying to find someone with young ones but with no luck). Several of the young ones that she had were real little nippers but the one we chose didn't nip at all. We are hoping that we have got it right this time. We have called him "Bart" because he came from Simpson Street. Can anyone tell from the photos if he is definitely a boy? We are hoping so.
  9. I know it is suppose to be a personal choice as to whether to clip wings or not. I have searched on this subject but have become confused as to whether it is best to clip just one wing or both. Some say just clip one then others will say do both. I'm not sure what to do for the best.
  10. What are the chances of teaching my budgies to talk when there are three in the cage. One is an older one who has not learnt to talk but is very attentive when I talk to him and the other two are young ones (around eight weeks). Some people tell me that there is no chance at all but others say it could happen. I am wondering what other peoples opinions on this would be.
  11. I'm not sure if the following link will work but it is the one for the forum that I found the information on. It is pretty old (2003) and some of the links no longer work. But I'll try anyway. I am hoping that it is a good sign that Barry will accept Lou and Andy (Little Britian characters). http://www.tailfeathersnetwork.com/communi...read.php?t=4944
  12. I have done a bit of Googling and came up with the following information from an old forum. Think it may be the answer to Barry's problem as he is other wise very healthy. I found mention of another cause of a male's blue cere colour changing to brown, besides a tumour of the testis. Apparently, this can also occur when a submissive male budgie is housed with other males - his cere may turn brown to show the others that he is not a threat. :fear
  13. Our budgie Barry is four years old. This morning I noticed that his cere is looking brown and up till now it has been blue. Yesterday day we bought home two new baby budgies. At the moment they are in a cage next to Barry but we hope to put them in together by the end of the week. But if it doesn't work out we will have to make a decision on who goes as we only have room for the one cage(a big one). I have been trying to teach Barry to talk since we got him but with no luck. And he doesn't like being handled. Anyway could there be some reason why Barry's cere is now looking brown?
