Talk about FAST!!! One of my two pairs have been mating on and off for the last 30 minutes, The females cere is just the slightest shade of tan in the center just between her nostrils. She is coming into breed mode, my question is this. Is it to soon for her to produce fertile eggs? It looked to me like they were doing a pretty successful job of it, so there shouldn't be an issue there. I am just worried that she is not yet fully in season. Any thoughts?

Certainly nothing exciting, but here are the two pairs I have put up. The breeding cages from what I have read here are big enough. I have in them the following: Cuttle bone, calcium block (x2) mineral block (x2)food, water, millet, nest box. I am using a powder calcium supplement that I mix with their wet food. I can't seem to find calcivet here in the states. Their diet consists of (for all my birds, not just the breeders) 3 different fresh veggies and 1 fruit daily. Crumble and fortified seed. Every other day they get a protein source ie: egg or ground chicken. Vet has me giving them all liquid vitamin supplement and wheat germ oil mixed with seed as well. Have I left anything out??? ANY and all suggestions or advice is solicited, so please add your thoughts. Thanks a bunch!!

okay I am ready to give this a go. I have researched, read, studied, asked questions, spoke with my vet and feel I am ready to start a few breeding pairs. I even have a mission statement!!! As with anything new, I am a bit nervous, but I am sure that will pass. I have double and triple checked all my supplies, made a research notebook, downloaded the budgerigar program and set up the breeding cages. If my first experience isn't terrible ( praying for good results) I plan on joining the ABS and starting a SELECTIVE breeding program. There are no quality breeders in my area, so my plan is to provide quality and background to those looking for a non CHAIN PET STORE budgie. I am sure I will have tons of questions for you all, and I know this is the right forum to get them answered, so thanks in advance for any help along the way!!

TY both. I had posted that I didn't think it was possible, as I had never heard of it happening before. But when it comes to breeding stuff, I am still learning. :-)

Is it possible for a hen to lay 2 eggs in 1 day? If so I am thinking it must be very hard on her. The question was asked on another forum I am on and it made me curious

Hello all~ I wanted to introduce myself after many months of lurking. My name is Donna and I live in the Northcentral part of the United States. I currently have 8 budgies in my indoor aviary. (I will post pictures on the picture forum as I am not sure they are allowed in this forum) I had budgies as a child, I am however new to budgies as an adult.
