Thanks Elly! That's what I thought about the outcome of the chicks. Yeah I noticed on other member's posts about the surprise chick. It gets really confusing!

Thanks for the responses everyone they were really helpful. I think I am going to put the next box in within the next few days as both have been very active, vocal and chewing everything. I am not sure of the genes of these birds, but I was wondering what possibilities there could be for any chicks.

Hi everyone! It has been awhile since I have posted, but I have a question. I have researched breeding for over 2 years now and I would like to breed. I have put a nest box in, in the past in which Charley (female recessive pied) showed interest, but my male Shamrock showed no interest in breeding. Since then they have bonded more and groom and feed each other. Charley's cere though still has not changed to breeding condition even though she will be 2 in October. (It has never changed since I have owned her almost 2 years this September.) So I want to see if you think she is a female and if so is my male in breeding condition. (He is almost finished molting and his cere looks much darker than before.) Shamrock my male. The next two are with the flash. Charley Female? No flash.

I have been researching and reading everything I can about breeding budgies for over a year now. I have tried to breed two of my budgies, Shamrock and Charley recently, but was unsuccessful. So now I am interested in breeding Charley and Komet. I was wondering if I could see some pictures of some of your setups for some ideas. Thanks!

I really love the pied gene too. I love those cute button eyes! And I know how it feels to lose a beloved pet. (((hugs))) :angel1:

Hi again! Thanks for the responses. I tried to get a closer picture of her cere. I zoomed in as far as I could with my camera. I wouldn't say that her cere is as smooth as a males would be. It has been a little crusty at the bottom, but never turned dark brown or a noticable tan color.

Elly: I would have to agree that Komet does look like your Merlin. Thanks I could never figure out if he was cobalt, mauve, or sky blue. When he was younger he was a lighter blue.

I have had her for a year so she is at least 1 year old. When I got her she was about 9 weeks old (hadn't had her first molt yet).

Shawna: See that's what I thought. I thought she (he) was a female, but since I have had her she has not come into breeding condition which is weird. They get fresh foods everyday and plenty of exercise. Elly: Yes that is correct for the color, whitish, tan, pink color.

Hi! I am new and just wanted to introduce my flock. I have Shamrock, a normal green, Charley, recessive pied, and Komet, normal sky blue. All are a year old or older. Shamrock is the oldest and is almost 2 years old. Hope you like them. Komet Shamrock Charley

Hi! I am new here and was confused on the gender of my recessive pied, Charley. I think she is a female, but for the time I have had her, her cere has not changed to a light or dark brown (breeding conditon). I have had her since she was 9 weeks old and she is 18 months now. I just wanted to make sure her gender is correct because I have been wanting to breed her with my normal green budgie, Shamrock. (I have researched breeding for a year now and have decided to try breeding since both birds are old enough.) I love this forum and have been reading it for awhile and decided to join. Any help is appreciated! This is Shamrock, the male I would like to breed her with. Charley, recessive pied hopefully hen.
