Good luck Kaz & Ken…stir up some of those cats lazing on the lounge inside to help. They must be getting life too easy…LOL. Or are they too highly bred to lower themselves to manual work.

THANKS kAZ, I HOPE YOUR RIGHT THEY HAD BEEN TOGETHER FOR QUITE AWHILE, just as soon as she laid the first egg things happened, would like to get some chicks from this two...hoping for not another infertile batch.
  3. See if you can find a sheep farmer that uses it, as it’s quite expensive & mostly sold in too large a pack for just a few birds & some vets wont give you any, as it’s only registered for sheep, goats etc
  4. Denise I agree with Kaz a nice Normal Violet could be good, plenty of contrast YF2 Dominant Pied Violets & Cobalts. See you needed to buy that bird, you were so excited you even forgot the rabbit food…LOL…
  5. You have cut his wing feathers at some stage haven’t you? Some feathers are growing back, but just seem to have been roughed up; it doesn’t look like any feather problem to me.
  6. Even though some Budgies live longer lives, 5 is already getting on for most Budgies, most of the older birds that I have that were given to me by other breeders are looking pretty old at 6 & some have already died at about this age. I’m not sure I haven’t had the problem with Budgies, but with Canaries as they get to old age; when they moult they often get similar looking feathers that are misshaped. When the feather emerges from the skin it is covered by a sheath, with some problems this sheath doesn’t get removed for some reason, maybe this is part of the problem. I don’t know if it’s because the bird doesn’t remove it, as Melbournebugies says or some other factor

Thanks Jimmy... I’m living dangerously… after putting the cock back with the hen for a few days while I was there, I have now left him with her for a few days, she has 5 or 6 eggs now & things seem to have settled down. She’s incubating most of the time & now to see if any eggs are fertile.
  8. Bit exciting like you say Libby, bit early to tell what yet, but birds can certainly be split for Ino & Lacewing, as my cock I bought that has given me my one & only Lacewing, has produced Lutinos too. As far as I know it could be split for Fallow too. Lacewings have the Mauve check patches, which it seems to be getting, but not the rump colour, I guess we need to wait a few more days. I would think that even if it was a Fallow even with the chance of Spangle, you would think it would have White check patches.
  9. Just removing your hen & treating her for scaley mite, probably wont fix the problem if she has in fact got mite, as these will have probably spread to the chicks & other birds that she has came in contact with. There are various ways of treating this mite, usually I use Ivermectin if you can obtain it, one drop on the skin of every birds should fix the mite problem & if using this method you wouldn't even have to remove the hen.

My sympathies I have problems with Carpet or Diamond Pythons here so I know what it’s like. Looks like you need smaller wire or check for holes. re your pied if you don't have any other Pieds it must be Recessive Pied.
  11. Way to go MB...you didn't call yourself Melbourebudgie for nothing...I'm proud of you.
  12. Don't worry I have been strong & not bought a bird...but then the next week looked again & it was still there so it came home with me...LOL... No hope 4 us... At least Elly your more stronger than most of us...your only onto your second birds aren't you? But don't be complacent, your still not safe at any moment it could develop into a full-blown addition, be careful. Denise I just picked up on the fact that no body took notice of the fact that you said it has Yellow on the face & wings...it must be a Yellow Face2 Dominant Pied Cobalt Normal.
  13. Sorry to hear about your losses, but usually there is something wrong if a chick doesn’t live or hatch correctly…if all is well you don’t need to intervene, they will take care of themselves. The natural system isn’t like us humans that spend lots of time helping the sick; it spends its time looking after the healthy. Some times young bird just don’t seem to get it right & will improve later on, but chicks that don’t hatch correctly show to me something was definitely wrong & little can be done about it..

Sorry to hear about your rat problem Kaz, they are really bad new, hope you find it real quick. I have been battling mice & rat problems where I live here in the bush [25 years] & only keep them under control, never really get rid of them, just more & more come out of the bush, especially this time of year as it cools down...good luck to you both, you will need it.

The first baby must be a Recessive Pied as neither parents are showing any Pied feathers, if it were Dominant one parent would have to be Pied. I was suspicious because of that one feather that was in between colour on the wing, which is common in Recessives, whereas Dominants usually have the complete feather either Pied or clear. Of course if your colony breeding & have another Dominant Pied in the aviary that could be the parent? I still think the other chick is Grey wing, not Cinnamon wing. Look at the picture of the Dad; the bird to his left is a Cinnamon…lots of Grey wing have a Brownish look to them especially in photos. So that means that both Mum & Dad are split for Recessive Pied & Mum is split for Grey wing.
  16. Sorry about that Kaz & Feathers, I know how it is when you have a special bird you want to get something out of & it doesn’t work out…maybe she will come good later. "Amira ....YES....and she's BLONDE." Kaz, please be sensative we have Blondes watching...not mentioning any names.
  17. I agree with Kaz…she should moult out a nice bird. You should know by now that when you have addictions like this you should only be allowed to carry enough money to buy your needs. So you can't be tempted.
  18. Welcome to the forum…did he ever have good feathers before he started chewing them? The reason I ask is that some birds that have had French Moult early in life grow feathers back, but depending on the amount of damage some never grow back perfect & can break with use & then possibly the bird would pick at them, if they annoyed him. Apart from the feather problem he looks healthy enough.

I agree with Kaz, except that the first one could be Recessive PIed, if we knew the parents that would help.

Not only does he want all the cake & donuts, but now he wants your dog…or at least a picture of it…at least he seems to have calmed down some…you would think that with all the cake etc he would get more hyper active…
  22. Kaz mentioned in another post the other day that she had lost a bird through blood feather bleeding. I have never seen that happen, I have always just looked on it as a pretty normal occurrence & never done anything, the same with pin feathers on the face, I have seen many on here panic about that, but it happens regularly & I have never done anything & within two days normally it has cleared up. Removal of the offending feather especially in the wing could be a good idea, as then it should stop bleeding & then renew the feather, which would be an advantage to the bird in the long run. Some of the more show type buff birds seem to have more problems than others. As the geneticists say each mutation is basically a fault in the normal gene & even though breeders see buff as a plus in their aim to breed a bird closest to the model of “perfection” they require, I still think that buff is a deterioration in feather quality from the normal wild type bird which has beautiful sleek tight feathers.
  23. Your probably right on DF Elly, but I think that's pretty rare. I have mated YF2 to YF2 & still got plenty of White Faces. Double factor YF1 produce some White Faces which are double factor, but you can't tell by just looks. Yes I agree I'm no expert on Golden Faces, but I would think that's what they are, I have most of my better YF2 with Cream type faces, I have bred a few pet types with more the buttercup Yellow as you say [like Lutino] I'm going to try & improve them by breeding.
  24. Yellow face is Dominant but still only a 50% chance of YF in the chicks if mated to a White Face Elly. MB...don't you think your Yellow Faces might be Golden Faces? They looks such nice strong colours in the face & the body...my YF2 have more of a Cream face.
  25. WELCOME JULIE...I hope your enjoy the forum.
