I'm So Confused
Okay cool. Understanding now. Basically I am going to have to go get books on genetics of budgies because now I need to know everything about my babies. Thanks Nerwen for taking the time to explain to me what the deal is now I'm not so confused. I thought a bit later that I should include these pics the top one is the bluish one with pale yellow wings. I got alot more diversity then I thought

I'm So Confused
Right I have no idea i am so confused. I understand ( don't actually understand but accept thats how it goes) that as my hen is a double factor spangle and the cock is a normal light green I should get 100% green spangles. Are spangles then described further by their colour or they just spangles and thats it. I have 4 bubs - 2 are a more green version of their yellow mother, 1 is the splitting image of the father, and the last one has very pale yellow wings wih hardly any markings with a bluish body. I know I may be stupid but can someone explain to me why or how this all works

Baby Falling Out Of Nest
Thanks for asking bubbles the fledgling is doing well does like to be out the hole. I have provided alittle igloo on the floor incase he wants to sleep in the day while he is out. Hath I do not think that chip would attack his babies his the one that keeps him fed while he is on the floor. I must say the funniest part is the look on the parents faces when he jumps sort of like "oh there he goes again (roll eyes)". The other bubs are doing good too. Oh and I posted them in pictures if u interested

My Babies
Well all is going well with my babies and here are some pictures they are mostly feathered. This is my favourite the one who insists on jumping out the hole and free falling to the ground all the feathers are there now so I feel better anyone know what is going to be I think she/he is gorgeous. This one looks just like dad This one already makes angry budgie sounds a little bad tempered like mum as far as bad tempers go. This one so painfully shy it is the youngest so that is to be expected. So these are my babies so gorgeous but I am bias I guess. I dont know colours would anyone like to tell me what my little brood are I would be so grateful

Finally
I agree with sailorwolf the male will do his job. Mine has plenty of toys and he never neglects the mother or the babies. But while she is sitting he will be very bored without toys.

Baby Falling Out Of Nest
Thanks for the input Sco-tie I do clean the box twice a week or more frequently if it looks a bit messy. I'm pretty anal about cleaning been a nurse and all. Thanks for the suggestion though. I think he just prefers to be out the box stays in for a day sometimes. I just put him back at night dad looks after him really well while his out so I just gonna let him be. I'm just a bit worried what he will be as an adult being so precocious already god help me!

Baby Falling Out Of Nest
no he hasnt got all his feathers yet hes got the beginnings of flight feathers but still alot of down showing I dont know much but he doesnt look ready to me, one of his siblings has more feathers then him. I will do as you say cause I dont like him doing this freefall stunt out the box all the time, I just cant believe what I am seeing. I wonder does he already want my attention he definately is all happy when I hold him and does grumble when I put him back in the box. The parents will still feed him if his on the floor though wont they?

Baby Falling Out Of Nest
I am getting a bit worried about this baby of mine he is very unusual. Today he was out of the nest about four times after the second time I put him back in I set the camera up in the room to record the budgie cage to see what was happening. He actually comes up to the hole pokes his head out looks around and then just jumps out and does a freefall. He did this twice and I captured it on video when I put him back and left the camera going and he did it again. Is he playing a game I think its a bit odd he is only a few days past three weeks old. I'm worried that he is gonna hurt himself soon

Stupid Question
Yeah bells are great. One of my budgies completely ignores cuttlefish but absolutely loves the bells she sits there and gnaws away makes me happy to know she is getting what she needs

Baby Falling Out Of Nest
The nest box is incide the cage so he is falling about 30 cm (not as far as yours thank goodness I would just die) dont think he would hit anything and seems totally non plussed about the whole thing he just scrambling round he bottom of the cage enjoying himself. I was going to put a hand towel on the bottom to soften the blow but worry bout little claws getting stuck.

Baby Falling Out Of Nest
Im a tiny bit concerned my favourite baby budgie keeps falling out of the nest. He does this every second night/morning and doesnt seem to be learning from the experience. The other ones have never done it. He hasnt been hurt yet but thats what I'm scared off. Should I do something or is this normal budgie baby behaviour

My Babies Starting To Feather Up
I did notice that spot what does it mean I am very curious now

Sweet Potatoes
Yeah I would say your right turbs. Potatoes are from the deadly nightshade family,if potatoes are green throw them out. Green potatoes can give you bad tummy cramps and the green leafs are deadly, with birds it all would be deadly I imagine. Sweet potatoes not the same as far as I know quite sure they different family.

My Babies Starting To Feather Up
I think it might be, the mum is a spangle and the dad is a normal light green I wouldnt know though I'm new to the whole breeding thing looks alot like its mum tho. The appear to have the dads temperment thankgod except one who already protests been held.

Egg And Biscuit Mix
My budgies have babies at the moment and I am feeding them a little bit of egg and biscuit mix with water everyday on its own which they polish off in 2 seconds. As this is high in protien I am wondering if I am giving to much as I know protien is hard on the kidneys. How often and how much should I give them and when not breeding how much should they have then. My problem is that the only vegie they will eat is snow peas and I can't get them to touch pellets so their diet is a bit lacking. They get vitamin supplement in their water and they have cuttlefish, mineral and calcium bells which they like.

My Family

Anyway you may have seen on other posts that my Chip and Lola are raising a family of 4 very well I might add for first timers. Im so excited! :hap:
