Hi There
Hi Bux, welcome again. I saw your other two posts before this one, and I have said in both that your birds should be quarantined. It is really important. I also believe Bloo is a boy, as I said in one post already, as the blue is even and goes right out to the edges of the cere. If it were a girl it would have definite white rings around the nostrils. Budgie Vent
Hi Jackie, welcome to the BBC forum. I hope you like it here and stick around. As you only got the budgie this month and have changed her diet, that is more than likely what the problem is. No one packet of food can have everything needed by a budgie for good health. Despite what it says on the packet. I would still include seed as well as that mix, even if it has seed in it, and I would also still give fresh vegies. I hope she comes good soon. Feathers. By the way, Rainbow, you have a club now, is that new?

My Two
They are absolutely lovely. Curtain rods are always a favourite place, they are nice and high up there. Didn't you only just get Bloo? He does look male, by the way. They should be separate for at least 30 days for quarantine. Feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
Me three It was bugging me all last night, I couldn't understand why I would have gotten that wrong earlier. So, as I checked the night before with a night light and a flexi torch I had a look at him in the daylight this morning as he is spangle. So back to the original expectations. As I said in the post yesterday I had had a couple of very rough days and my head was not screwed on at all. Thankfully a lot of the stress was taken from me this morning, for which I am extremely grateful. Feathers.

New Addition
Definitely a goldenface skyblue spangle, and a very pretty one at that. To get "seafoam" (which isn't a colour I would ever say) you would need to pair him to a cobalt normal or cobalt spangle. A 'seafoam' bird is a YF2 cobalt, generally. I am glad you are going to quarantine as, especially when you just have a bird on loan, it would be awful to lose this bird, or make yours ill. Even though the bird may be been perfectly healthy at your friends place, the stress of moving could bring out a disease that they were carrying, but showing no signs of. Feathers.

Handling
Hi, welcome to the BBC forum. I don't think it should be such a huge problem with Bloo copying Boab as, for at least a month, they should be separated for quarantine anyway. This will give you time to work on some training with Bloo. It would be best to have them both in separate areas of the house for that time as well. Reading through the Taming article that Elly gave you a link to should help. After quarantine, when you put them back together, you may find that Boab will take his cue from Bloo and even copy him, if you are lucky. In the meantime always move your hand slowly when you do the food and water in Boab's cage and when he is more comfortable with that slowly try to offer him millet, as per the article, and he may start to respond. With some budgies it can take months, with others weeks. It depends on how much they were handled before you got them, how old they are, and even the sex of the budgie plays a part. Feathers.

Some Questions
Hi Sharyn, I have a huge assortment of toys for my birds and generally they aren't ever a problem, but not too long back I found a budgie in the aviary who was standing on the bottom of a spiral bungee toy and I stopped to say hi, how are you and have a bit of a chat. It is lucky I did as he had somehow managed to get one of the bits of strings from the bottom wrapped around a feather in his chest and he was trapped there. It looked just like an umbilical cord going into him. He wasn't showing any signs of distress and someone was feeding him because I saw him there the day before and I thought it was just his favourite spot. I cut him free and cut the strings short on all the toys that had them, and most rope toys do. But out of 60 budgies, once in a year, someone was going to have an accident. Now they have very short string the budgies can chew on, but none are long enough to wrap around a neck and it would be pretty hard to get a foot stuck. Feathers

Breeding Hen Turns Her Back On Her Eggs
Hi Neat, an egg that was never fertile won't have any veins. Since I set up my breeding room with pairs I check on them all only twice a day. In the morning I go through all the nests, check if there has been any eggs laid or chicks hatched and that any chicks have full crops. In the evening I take out any soft food left, refill their seed bowls and water, check if any eggs have been laid, or chicks hatched and once again check that any hatched chicks have a full crop before lights out. I have two hens who automatically leave their nests when I come in, probably because they know I will get them to leave anyway so I can check everything. Maybe that is what your is are doing. Leaving the nest when you come in. Just a thought. Feathers.

Feather Town ~ Budgies ~
Shawna, maybe your sister doesn't realise how important your budgies are. Lucas would probably love to see them too. I hope she does it for you soon. Thank you everyone for your comments. I happen to think I have a great flock Be they pet type or exhibition type they all have their own character and give me so much enjoyment. Cheeta, Gracie is so funny, everyone else sitting nicely around the sides and Gracie diving straight into the centre. So cute Feathers.

Breeding Hen Turns Her Back On Her Eggs
Goodness Neat, you're on an emotional rollercoaster with this breeding stuff :hap: Maybe the birds are picking up on your nervousness. I hope it is all smooth sailing from here-on in. Feathers.

atmospheric pressure. The weight of the air pushing down is greater than the force the water can exert coming out. The bottle top is higher than the bowl and it stops coming out once the level in the bowl is equal with the bottle top. Feathers.

Feather Town ~ Budgies ~
Your wish is my command... Here she is, standing up nice and tall with the big kids And a photo to show the yellow through the wings I sure do: Wow, look at her.. are my birds underfed or something?? :hap: Paul, his colour is so intense and a deep yellow has bled through the cobalt. He has a lovely nature too. You are very welcome, Paul. They are my kids and all my kids get spoilt by love, not money. Feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
I just checked and at least the first 3 look fertile, it is too early to check the last three as they are under 5 days old. I just had a close look at him. He isn't a spangle, the wing colouring is as per a normal, just very light. You can see it best looking near the bottom of his wings. So skyblue chicks split for dilute, 50% spangle, 50% yellow face. Another pair has started to lay today: Jem (cobalt opaline hen) and Beachu (Grey normal cock) Feathers.

Lucas Is Very Very Sick
Shawna, I am so pleased to keep hearing about how well he is doing with his treatments. He is dealing with this with so much strength and maturity. All my love, positive vibes and prayers continue to come your way. Western Australia has for many years had the most successful telethon in support of our children's hospital than anywhere else in Australia. I believe per capita it is the the most succesful worldwide. A lot of money goes into childhood research as well. It is not held until October, but I will donate extra this year as a tribute to Lucas. I look forward to seeing any photos you may have of his presentation on Sunday. Aly

Hi Everyone.
Hi Sue, welcome to the BBC forum, it is fantastic to have you here. Even though I have a lot of budgies of my own there are so many budgies you get to know here through hearing about them and photos that are posted, that you get very attached to these 'cyber budgies' - as Kaz put it. I think it is great that you realise that you are not in a position to give a budgie the care it needs right now, and you should be very proud of yourself for understanding that. It is also great that you are so proud of your heritage, too many kids from different countries are ashamed or embarassed about speaking a different language or being "different" and so much is lost. They realise when it is way too late how much they missed by not keeping up the language skills and not understanding their own background and often regret the decisions made in youth. Good on you! Feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
Thanks Kaz. I love the new name by the way, you deserve stars I was looking at the photo above when I suddenly thought, I'm not so sure Oh-oh is actually a spangle, so I went back through my archived pics and looked at these: These are pics of him as a youngster, but I think because of the dilute factor, from a distance he appears a spangle. I will have to have a proper look at him later Looks like we can ignore the expectations above and go with: slyblue split dilute chicks, all normals. Feathes.

Feather Town Breeding
Thanks Ains. This is the new pair who have 1 egg. Dekota (YF2 skyblue spangle hen) and Oh-oh (skyblue dilute spangle cock) Expectations off the top of my head: skyblue chicks all split dilutes 25% DF spangles 50% spangles 25% normals 50% yellow faces Please feel very free to correct me. I have had the worst 2 days I've had in a long time - with Lori's medical scare yesterday and some very distressing news today. Keely is going strong with her egg laying. She now has 6 eggs. She was having trouble keeping them all together to incubate as the concave in her nest was way too shallow. I tried using pine shavings heaped around the concave to keep them together, but she kept removing them. I have now put an insert into the nestbox with a good concave and she seems much happier about it. She is showing no signs of stopping laying yet. She and her partner spent the time I was checking on the nests this morning to flirt with each other. I have not candled any of her eggs yet. I will try to remember to do it tonight. Feathers.

I don't think Cheeta ended up taking one, did she? Wasn't it while she was sick and the bubs had gotten older than she wanted? Thanks Budgie Lover, Neat, Cheeta and Phoebe Feathers.
