I'm Tired Of Chasing Her Around The Cage!
Whenever Scooter is being stubborn and doesn't want to come to me, I always use millet. He knows that the only time he gets millet is when he's sitting on me, so as soon as he sees it, he's already trying to step up without my hand even being there. :(Laughing out loud): Sometimes I think it's more of a game to them, than not actually wanting to come to you. Just keep working at it, and good luck!

'taking' Out Vs. 'letting' Out
I do both. I let him out every day, and I usually take him out of the cage and put him on his play gym, or let him fly up to his spiral rope that hangs from the ceiling. Other times, I'll just leave the cage door open and let him leave when he wants to. If he wants out immediately, he'll let me know, and he'll already be trying to step up before I even get my hand in the cage. :(Laughing out loud): He almost always puts himself away though. If I need him to go back in at that moment and he's on his play gym, he'll step up right away. If he's on his rope, that's a little more tricky. I don't know why, but he won't let me take him down from there, unless I have millet of course. Then he's more than willing. :(Laughing out loud):

Stubborn Budgie!
I think you are doing fine. Just continue to be patient with him and keep working at it. I've found that the key is patience and persistence. I've had my budgie for almost 5 months now, and he still has his days where he doesn't want to come to me when I want him too. He can be stubborn too :(Laughing out loud): But then other days, he's very willing to get on my hand and talk to me. They definitely have a mind of their own, so some days you may have to be more persistant and patient than others. Does he have a favorite toy? Maybe you can try using toys to get him to come to you. If it looks like you are having fun, then he might want to join in! He is probably gaining a new sense of independence since his wings are growing out, and since he doesn't feel like he has to rely on you so much for transport, he'll learn that he can now fly away if he wants to. My bird has never been clipped. He's always been able to fly, but I've had no problems handtaming him. He'll stay with me if he wants to, and if he doesn't, then he'll fly off. I'm letting him learn to trust me in his own time, and so far, it has been very successful. Every budgie has a different personality, and some will take longer than others to learn to trust and become tame. Just keep working at it. :hap:

Little Poop Factories
The great thing about budgie poo is it's small, easy to clean, and doesn't smell. :(Laughing out loud): It doesn't bother me. Scooter is confined to my bedroom since I have many other animals living in my house. If he's not in his cage, then he usually sits on his play gym or on his spiral rope. He used to sit on top of my tv and I would routinely have to clean up his poop from up there, but since I got the rope, he stays there most of the time. I have it hanging from the ceiling, and whenever he is out I just put a brown paper grocery bag underneath him. He must have good aim, cause he rarely misses the bag. :(Laughing out loud):

Do Budgies Grow Out Of Wanting To Chew On Everything?
Yes, he has been using his cuttlebone. He usually uses it at least once a day from what I've seen.

Do Budgies Grow Out Of Wanting To Chew On Everything?
Scooter is going through his first molt and he tends to want to chew on everything all the time now. I know budgies are chewers, but it seems that since he's started molting, he chews alot more, including me (Laughing out loud). It's not biting cause he's bitten me before, and there's a big difference. He just likes to chew on my fingers when he's sitting on me. He didn't use to do that until he began molting. Is this part of molting behavior? Or is it just something young budgies tend to do that he may grow out of?

What Could This Sound Mean?
I was playing with Scooter tonight and he made a new noise I've never heard him make before. It was a very quiet cooing, almost like a pigeon would make. But it was very quiet. He would do it whenver I would give him one of his plastic chains he likes to pull on or ring his bell for him. Is this a sound of affection?

Regurgitation Or Vomiting?
No he hasn't done it again. He looks fine this morning. He's eating and drinking and has been running around his cage singing and playing. He's not fluffed up and his poop looks normal. Could he have maybe eaten something that made him sick? The container of his seed his about empty, so could it be the older seed that made him sick? It still looks and smells fine, but maybe it's getting old. He's going through his first molt too. Could that have something to do with it?

Regurgitation Or Vomiting?
Tonight Scooter regurgitated or vomited. This is the first time I've ever seen this happen. He kept moving his head up and down and then some seed came up. He slung it all over the cage and even got some on his face and head. Would this be considered vomiting or regurgitating? He hasn't been acting any differently and is eating normally, so I don't believe he's sick. He seems fine right now and is eating again. So how can you tell if it's vomiting or regurgitation?

Squawking Budgie
I cover mine too. I'm a night owl and he is too, so he tends to stay up pretty late. He's actually the most active at night. It's 12:20 am right now and he's running around his cage playng with his toys and singing (Laughing out loud). He puts himself to bed and I cover him whenever I notice he's ready to go to sleep. He'll usually start moving around again at about 10 am, but he's pretty quiet until I uncover him. I sleep like a rock anyways so I don't usually hear him at all. The best thing to do is get him on your schedule. Don't cover him until you go to bed. That way his sleep patterns will be closer to yours.

What Is Scooter Doing?
Thanks guys. Good to hear that it's normal behavior. I'm really paranoid when it comes to him (Laughing out loud).

What Is Scooter Doing?
It wasn't a yawn cause I've seen him yawn plenty of times. He was sticking his neck out really far and doing it. Like a dog would if he was gonna throw up. He seems fine this morning so I don't know what that was all about. And I'm not really sure how old he is. He's young though. The pet store couldn't give me his exact age, just that he was still very young. They had just gotten them in the day before. I've had him for 2 months and a week.

What Is Scooter Doing?
Tonight I noticed Scooter doing something he's never done before. He was very active this evening. He was running all around his cage and playing with his toys, which isn't unusual for him, but he seemed more rambunctious tonight. And I noticed every couple mintues he'd stop and scratch his head with his feet several times and would preen himself. Seemed like more than usual. Then he'd start playing again. After awhile, he ate a little bit and then I noticed him scratching his head and then opening his beak really wide, like he had something stuck in his throat. He did this several times. I don't know if maybe he was trying to regurgitate or throwup? He's never done it before though, or at least not that I've seen, and nothing came up. He seems to be fine now. I've covered him up for the night and he's falling asleep. What could this be? Should I be worried?

How Many Of You Have Bought A Bird Without A Vet Check?
I bought mine without having him checked by a vet.

T.v?
I agree with lovey. My budgie doesn't really watch much tv because his cage is not positioned where he could see it, but I always have music on for him. Music makes him very happy, and it sounds like TV makes your budgie happy.

Scooter Has A Black Eye!
okay, not a real balck eye, but it looks like one. He was sitting on his little birdie playground and I noticed blue around his right eye. Apparently he rubbed his head on the ladder (which is blue) for a scratch and some of the dye got on the feathers around his eye. So it now looks like he has a black eye (Laughing out loud) :(Laughing out loud):

Boing Boing
That is so cute! I need to buy one of those for Scooter. I bet he'd love it.

Finch "pets" For A Lonely Budgie?
I think they would be good for her. Finches are definitely entertaining to watch, so they would surely keep her occupied. I don't how much companionship they'd provide, but she will have you for that.

What Music Does Your Budgie Like?
Scooter loves his music. He enjoys pretty much everything, but he LOVES rock music. He likes the drums alot (Laughing out loud). He loves upbeat songs and will sing along much louder with certain songs. His personal favorites are Panic! At the Disco "I Write Sins, Not Teagedies", The Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc.", and Ewan McGregor singing "Your Song" in Moulin Rouge. What are your budgie's favorite songs?

It's Funny How Budgies Bond To Humans Differently
My budgie Scooter will only come to me when I'm ready to put him back in his cage. The rest of my family interact with him too, but he's my bird so I'm the one who takes care of him and I'm around him all the time. One of his favorite places to sit is on top of my TV because it's the highest spot in my bedroom (it's on top of my entertainment center). When I'm ready to put him away, all I have to do is show him his perch and he jumps right on, no questions asked. If anyone else does it, he won't do it. He'll just back away or he'll fly off. It's so funny that he knows the difference :(Laughing out loud): It's the same way when asking him to go on your finger, though he's a little better about that. He has to be asked a few times to go "up" if it's on anyone other than me. I usually don't even need to ask. I just show him my finger and he does it. Before I owned a bird, I never knew they were so picky about their people. But they are just as picky as a dog, if not more so :(Laughing out loud): It's amazing how smart they are. They really know the difference.

Right Thing To Do?
You will probably make more progress by separating them when working on taming. If there's another budgie around, they will usually just pay attention to each other, which creates a distraction while taming. There wouldn't be anything wrong with separating them for a little while. Even if you just separated them while working on taming, it would make the process easier for you. And once you have one finger trained, the other might follow. Good luck!

He Sat On My Shoulder!
I finally got Scooter to sit on my shoulder! He's been handtamed for quite some time, but he never grasped the idea of stepping up from my finger to my shoulder. He would always just stay on my finger or he would fly off. Well, today he finally figured it out, and that is where he's currently sitting. I think he likes it. I've been walking around and he seems quite content there.

Is That Normal?!
Scooter does that too. Usually in the morning after he eats, he'll flap his wings a little bit to stretch them out and is ready to come out of the cage pretty soon after that. He lets me know when he's ready to come out cause he'll start running around the cage. And as soon as the door opens, he's outta there and takes several laps around my bedroom. He loves his morning fly. :dbb1:

Older Budgie....in Love With My Hand Lol
I work at a pet resort and bird sanctuary, and a little budgie was donated to the sanctuary. I don't know much about him, but he's a mature adult. He's been at the sanctuary for about 2 months now and has settled in nicely. He's very talkative. Anyways, I was working with him today. I've been trying to tame him some. I don't know if his previous owners ever handtamed him. So today I had my hand in the cage and he gave me a few hard bites to test me, but he got on my hand for the first time. And once he did, it seemed like he was very excited. He started circling around my hand with his head down, making all kinds of coos and warbles. It was almost like he was in love with my hand (Laughing out loud). Could this mean that he was handtamed at one time? He took to my hand pretty quickly once he stepped on the first time.
