  1. Thanks for this. I've ended up having to handraise some little ones atm (very fertile parents with limited parenting skills ) and there's very little info out there on handraising budgies specifically. I've H/R cockatiels but have to admit budgies are a different matter. They're doing well and are thorough little brats in a cute way.
  2. Thank you for the lovely comments. Finn and Milly are doing well together. They both dote on each other. She climbs all over him and he talks to her continually. Often it's "Now Milly I told you not to go on Coco's cage, now you need to come down' or "kiss kiss pretty Milly". It's brought out a lovely side of my son that I wasn't completely aware of.
  3. After 3 days all is going well with Miss Milly. She and Finn adore each other. I've forced myself to but out of things by having Olly (my lorikeet) out at the same time so I don't interfere. She's an absolute nutter, real little character. Finn thinks she's gorgeous and I gotta admit, she's pretty damn cute.

Yep, just checked up on it. Similar thing, multiclens has Chlorhexidine digluconate 10mg/ml whilst aviclens has Chlorhexidine gluconate 10mg/mL. I guess they really are a similar thing just made by 2 different companies.

Do you mean Multi-clens? In theory Petstock should have it. Here's a list of retail outlets in Victoria. http://www.wombaroo.com.au/Vic%20retail%20outlets.htm For sprouting I have invested in a bio-snacky germinator. Absolutely fantastic, actually almost too good. If you want more details please feel free to pm me.
  6. Would you believe we've just been having this discussion over on another forum. Personally I have a mix of clipped and unclipped depending on training, personality and circumstances for the bird. As well as the buds I have ringnecks and a lorikeet. I feel this is a personal choice and one must examine their lifestyle, the individual bird and then make a choice. Just my 2c worth.
  7. My 8 year old with his baby girl that he got yesterday.
  8. Quick update. Took Milly out, she went to bite and I softly blew in her face. Got the hint very quickly. Used a piece of dowel and fingers, Finn did the same thing and she's being an absolute delight. Snuggled up on his shoulder, played in his hair. She's clicked to the idea of 'step up'. I took some photos of them, batteries went flat on the camera so I'll post them once the batteries are charged. Thanks for your suggestions. Looks like the beginning of a lovely relationship.
  9. Yesterday was my middle sons 8th birthday and he wanted a young budgie. So we troop down to the bird dealer get this pretty little pied girl and take her home. Great little personality but a real biter, has drawn blood on me already (wench). Now my question is, I've done alot of taming from budgies through to Sulphers. Finn is concerned about her savage nip. If I tame her down a bit more, will she still bond with my son? I'm okay to deal with the biting, he isn't so sure. This is his bird not mine. If we don't get her sorted out then I'll end up dealing with her and having to pair her up down the track, but at the same time if I force him to sort it I'm concerned that it will damage his confidence with her and therefore future bond between them. Any thoughts?

I now have a rainbow lorikeet added to the collection. Budgie noise, what noise? Can't hear it above someone else screeching.
  11. Yeah, while I want it it's kinda down the list a bit.
  12. Fabulous, love it, perfect. I've pm'd you on this one Cheeta. Yes Lin, you know where I'm heading.
  13. I agree Lin, who wants an audience, but this is a lttle extreme. Silly Amara. Hope all is okay with them, at least dad knows where they all are.

I know that I'm going to get in trouble here but time to be honest. I'm **** at quarantine. Just doesn't end up happening. I know all the reasons why, so I'm not going to even try to justify my silliness. Now...as for hubby, mine would do the same thing and if it wasn't him it would be one of the boys. Just monitor and as Lin said 99% of the time it's fine. They look so sweet together. There's no way you could break up the romance now.

Just can't remember what it's called Hope this helps.

Just a big note to the pellet discussion. Point one, pellets are not easy to get in Australia. I use Passwell because they don't have colours in them. I've tried Kaytees and the smell with the colours is just not my cup of tea. These are made into biccies for the ringnecks because they won't eat them in normal from. Planning on trying the same with the budgies. Next point, I was colony breeding back 25 years ago. My budgies had seed, water, any seed grasses plucked out of my parents garden and the occasional bit of fruit chucked in. I lost very few babies and the main problem I had was overbreeding. This was solved by removing the boxes, and dealing with the loss of potential babies because of this. Now, my question is, are we worrying too much about trying to introduce a balanced diet with pellets and the other hoohaa and in fact moving the birds away from what they would naturally eat?

I've been using the passwell pellets for awhile made into biccies for my indian ringnecks and just bought a pkt of the crumbles for Squidgee and Scully to do the same thing. Check the ingredients and all looks okay with Passwell. These biccies are an extra treat that my birds get with their fruit and veg. Otherwise it's seed. Thanks for getting me to check properly. I do it with the kids, should with the fids too.

Sunshine's pretty darn cute. I'm such a sucker with pieds.
  20. Thanks for that Daz. Just added it to my bookmarks. :ausb:
  21. Is Merlin a recessive pied? Just asking 'cos the I was looking at getting a pair of recessive pied blues for the next pairing and Merlin is soo pretty. Damn that Nullabor. :ausb::
  22. Just thought I'd mention, still sulking. How can one little budgie do this to us? Aah!! Oh well no worries about me stealing Bao thanks to the Nullabor!!
  23. okay, seriously for a second Lin, are you going to become mum to Bao? If so I've got the perfect thing for her. Meanwhile I'll just go sulk in my corner.
  24. Firstly let me say this is a fantastic idea Bubbles. I'll be following the babies with interest. Secondly, I want Bao. So gorgeous. I'm in love, sorry hubby, aaw. I'm kinda used to birds with difficulties. I have one ringneck who only has one foot and another one with skeletal deformity so she crashes rather then flies. The 3rd just has social issues. Did I mention I love Bao?
