  2. Sweet! Look at them all on the gym!! Glad to see that they're making good use of it. I'll be sure to let hubby knows his gym is a hit with your little flock..
  3. Awwww, those two are soooo cute together!! hehe, Blinkie sure doesnt like the attention reversed on him!! hehehe.. poor baby... haha
  4. okay showing technicality aside... Parrot Breeder, do you know for sure that's the outcome of the pairing? As you can see, it is not making sense to some of us here. :hap: I'm interested to find out.
  5. (Laughing out loud), I had to laugh at the first picture... what a cutie pie with that hairdo!! Sooo cute!! hehe
  6. Awww how cute!!! I wanna cuddle them all!!! I'm thinking baby three is a clearwing...
  7. Yep, I agree with Nerwen, when describing a yellowface, unless you're stating an actual shade of blue... ie skyblue, cobalt blue, or mauve, by stating just 'blue' in the mutation, it's a mute point. As Yellowface cannot occur in the green series as they are yellow base. And in the case of the above bird, you can't tell how many light or dark factors the bird carries. And also I just reread your posts... I am a bit puzzled as to the results of the actual pairing. Since Yellowface are dominants over whiteface, to get a yellowface baby, one of the parents need to be a yellowface. Now in saying that, it would mean that one of the parents is in fact a double factor yellowface (which is visually white face, but carries two yellowface gene...), however, for a parent to be be a double factor yellowface, ALL baby would turn out yellowface. Am I missing something? Anyone? am I off base again?? Nerwen? Elly? Anyone?? Thanks.
  8. I agree with Shawna.. a yellowface double factor spangle.
  9. yeah the only place I've found Harrison Pellets is where Bea's at... Canberra, and well if I get them, I'd get them for my cockatoo as well, and the price that they are... just too much for three cockatoos and 25 budgies.... so I just use the Vetafarm pellets instead.
  10. Just a FYI (For Your Information), any seeds or bird pellets won't make it into Australia without it actually being imported, and go through a series of test and all that. So we can't actually buy the pellets from the US to get it shipped over unfortunately.
  11. cute babies. :ausb: I too love the YF2 opaline spangle.

Eucalyptus/gum tree is fine for budgies. they actually love chewing, gnawing on the leaves itself.. Bottlebrush is good too! My budgies strip the bark off the branch and leave the hardwood inside alone. :ausb:
  15. I'm thinking Mika is a boy too...
  16. Oooohhhh... soooo that's making a bit more sense now... sooooo Hetero is single and Homo is Double factor.. okay gotcha.. thanks Nerwen...
  17. okay I just read through some genetics book... and it's darn confusing!! but in the end I got that they can be split for blue if they are like heterozygous or something or rather. I stand corrected.. anything CAN be split for blue.. but in the book I read, it says that it can only produce skyblue?!?! and that's 1 in 16 chance only. Anyway, thanks Daz, you got me reading...
  18. Daz, how can it be? I mean genetically, I didn't think you can have a 'third' colour gene right?!?!? so you can have either SF or DF, I don't think I've ever heard of having triple factor colour gene. unless of course grey green genes somehow are combined to become a single factor bird? which I really dont think that's possible either.
  19. OMG OMG OMG!!!! soooooo cute!!!!! I wanna give them all a cuddle!! and boy why can't all babies be like yours?? Look at them go!! Sooo cool!

that has got to be Custard's baby!! what a cutie pie!! Hello Aly!! I just love you and your daddy!!!
  21. Well here's my understanding of the colour factor in budgies... A budgie can hold two colour genes in each bird.... Green is dominant over blue, Blue is reccessive, Grey is dominant over blue, but co-dominant with green. for a bird to be Greygreen, it cannot be split to blue because like I mentioned, they can only have two colour genes.. in this case, one grey gene and one green gene... and because grey and green are co-dominant, they show up together therefore giving greygreen birds. Can't have blue as there are no more 'gene' for colours. As with Grey, again, it is co-dominant with green. and because grey is considered as 'blue series birds' or white base bird, the green isn't present in any grey birds. However it can be SF grey or DF grey.. in the case of the SF greys, it can only be split to blue, and not green as green isn't recessive to grey. and if you put two SF grey together, you can get blue, SF grey and DF grey. edit... after all that... you're almost right in saying that anything can be split for blue... all except for greygreen. I hope that makes sense.
  22. After looking at pics of Mika in the other thread, I do believe that like Nerwen said, it is caused by the opaline gene. Mika has the same sort of marking on her.
  23. A big big congrats for your excellent first show results!! :offtopic:
  24. awww they look sooooo adorable!!! :offtopic: I have to come over for a cuddle!!! :hap:
  25. I'm at a lost here... sorry Kaz..... If Custard is a Greygreen, there's no way you are going to get blue babies, since being grey green means that he can't be split for blue.. and since blue is recessive you need to have two blue genes to get blue babies... and of course.. to get green babies, you need to have green gene, and if he was a grey only that's not possible to get green babies. I'm doing myself in here.. hehehe.. I'm sure it's simpler.. And oh another thing, if you have a look closer to a spangle marking, the black isn't on the edge.. all their wing feathers still have white edges. just a fine black/cinnamon marking instead of a thick one.
