  1. Thanks guys. She lays eggs anyway, even if I don't put the nest box (actually this is only the second time I put the nest box in ther, she doesn't seem interested, after a few weeks she will break the eggs and I think she might eat a little bit of the shell. She has cuttle bone in her cage for calcium. I will give her some egg aswell. Thanks for the advice

  4. I took some more pics of Loui and Lizzie last night on their play pen. Im still working on trying to get good ligthing for the pics, sorry if the light is not perfect If I use the flash sometimes is too bright and Lizzie's colors don't come up correctly. My Loui man. He looks like he is rolling his eyes at me, (Laughing out loud) Sweet couple "Are you done yet?"
  5. Today I was at the pet store looking at some babies (just looking!!) And I had a hard time telling if some of them were male or female, any of you have any tips on how to tell what gender they are when they are so young? :ygbudgie:
  6. Thanks guys! I wouldn't want to separate them and give Lizzie away from Loui, he's so in love with her, I just feel bad because they never had any babies, but I guess that's okay they can live with it I supposed, they are two spoiled babies for sure!!
  7. Im pretty sure Loui is a male, his cere is very blue. I did check the eggs the first few times she started laying them, I checked them by week 1 1/2 or 2. and there was nothing in them. She layed on them for about a month. Prob. about 1 or 2 more weeks after the last egg was due to hatch (this was the first I would say 3 or 4 times, now she doesn't tend to them as she did before, she is starting to make a nest again, we'll see how she is this time.
  8. I have a pair of parakeets, Loui is about 4 or 5 Lizzie about 3 or 4. They have been mating for a while, since about Lizzie was about 2 1/2, once in a while they lay eggs, the first three times (about a month or two apart) Lizzie would lay on the eggs for a few weeks, very attentive. But no babies catched. She lays about 5 eggs each time. She lays the eggs at the bottom of the cage, the last few times she lays them, she doesn't tend to the eggs so much as before (I guess because they didn't hatch). I have a nest box for them, only one times she used it, took care of the eggs for a few weeks, still no babies. I have the nest box back in their cage now, and Lizzie looks like she is building a nest under it. I'd like to know if there is anything I can do to help her have at least one clutch of babies, all that work she has for nothing. I thought maybe Loui couldn't mate correctly because of his broken wing, but I read they can only use one wing for that, and the other one is normal. So do you have any suggestions of what could cause the eggs not to hatch, or is is simply that maybe one of them is unfertile? Thanks! Here they are. PS: I've actually seen them mate only once, but I see all the behaviors leading to it, and my family has seen them on several occations.

  11. (Laughing out loud)! He's too funny! I love how he keeps sayin "whatcha doin'" (Laughing out loud) what a cutie! And such a talker, I could never get mine to to talk, even if I trained them individually. The end was too funny. He is such a character. Thanks for sharing that was sweet
  12. I wanted to share a picture of my Loui taken years ago, this was the year I adopted him, I think it was '01. He was great at posing for the pirate ship http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/keetmom/newloui.jpg Moderator’s Message to user Please remeber to keep pictures under the 450 X450 pxl limit of the board rules. Thanks you.
  13. Aww, they are all so cute, but Tazzy is just adorable, he has such a sweet baby face
  14. Thanks guys!! Loui hurt his wing before I got him, the pet store owner thinks his mom stepped on his wing as a baby, but I don't know how it happened. It doesn't stop him from running around his cage though, and he jumps high, but I have to watch him at jumping because he gets excited but he isn't the best at landing, :hap: He's a very happy bird, he doesn't seem to know he can't fly. He'll even strech his good wing and try to do it. He's around 4 yr old. He's the sweetest little gentleman. Lizzy is the opposite, she's the wild child, always getting into everything, and she can have her temper too. They've tried to breed several time, Lizzy even lays eggs, but they never produce babies, I don't know if it's because of Loui's wing, or something else. I just put a nesting box in their cage again (I put it a few months ago, she laid eggs, but no babies) . So we'll see what happens, she will usually lay them on the bottom of the cage, and even make a little nest under the newspaper. The last couple of times she hasn't laid on the eggs though. She doesn't seem to have as much interest as before.... Well, im rambling on... thanks for the welcome, I can't wait to hear about your parakeets/Budgies!!
  15. Thanks!! Here's my crew Loui and Lizzy. (Loui is in the back) All toghether. (Loui has a broken wing from birth) Soon more to come :hap:
