What Are We?
What does type 1 mean? Also, Lovey, you said 'his'. Was that just a typo or is she a he?

What Are We?
Can anybody help me out? I imagine Jimmi( the green girl) is fairly straightforward, I just don't know the difference between different types of green etc. But I just don't know about custard - I believe she's a yellowface something or other ( that's as much as I've been told). (I've used this picture elsewhere, but it shows Custard's back well. can you see her purpley-blue band on her neck? it never comes up in pictures well ) Here she is again in the background, so you can see the colour on her front more In some lights, she's a much brighter, turquoisier blue than at other times.. It's probably really simple, but I just don't know about all this stuff. p.s. for anybody who hasn't seen my other post about Custard, don't worry, I know she has scaley face. It's being dealt with.

How About A "poofy Contest"
Just found this post and thought you might like this extremely poofy picture. Custard thought she'd have a go too, while Jimmi hid behind a bit of wood ( she thinks I can't see her )

Does She Think Shes A Bat Or What?
Do I qualify for the upside-down budgie club? p.s. Don't worry about them chewing the wood - it's all untreated etc.

Hello
Poor little boy. Hope he gets better soon!

Hi!
Thanks Shawna, I picked her especially for her strange colouring. I'm new to budgie keeping so I just go for what I think is pretty. I don't really know what either of them are in terms of colour. I love them just the same though.

Ryvita - Is It Safe For Budgies?
Hi all, Jimmi found a Ryvita on my plate when I wasn't looking and promptly tucked in. She loved it. For those who don't know what Ryvita are (not sure if they're only in UK), they're a kind of health-food cracker for people - all wholemeal, wholegrain, no added salt etc. Do you think this will be bad for her if I give it as an occasional treat? I've heard wholemeal bread is alright as a treat, although I've never tried it with mine.

Levi In The Shower
I wish my birds would do that! That's so lovely. Hmm... he looks as awful lot like my Jimmy... maybe we could do a 'swap'.

Is This Scaley Face?
Thanks for the help everyone. I was just wondering, how quickly does scaley face progress? Is it a matter of days, weeks, or what? I'm going to get her to the vets asap but I've got to find an avian vet as I've never had cause to take them to one before, and then I've got to arrange to get her there as I don't drive. Will she be okay for a few days? While I find a good vet? Also, does anybody know how much scaley face treatment is in the UK? Also, do I need to take Jimmy with her? They live together, so he (I can't get used to saying she) might have the mites too. Or should I just treat him with the ointment for Custard?

Sacley Face?
I had a bit of a look round the net and I found this site, with a picture of a bird with hypertrophy of the cere. I'm not a vet, so I don't know anything about it, but the picture sounds like the type of cere growth you're referring to. If it does look similar to your birds, there's some info on there too about possible causes etc. http://www3.sympatico.ca/davehansen/obstruct.html

Sacley Face?
There are a few pictures in this section of early scaley face. There's my post with pics showing Custard whose been developing her scaliness for only a few weeks(that I've noticed), and there's Cheeta's post, which has pictures of a bird that appears to show very early signs of it. Do a bit of compare and contrast. I know what you mean, though. It's hard to find a picture of a bird that isn't really badly affected to compare to.

Hi!
Dammit, I always get it wrong. I used to have a boy called Rosie! I've not had budgies for that long, and I thought only boys had blue ceres. I've had jimmy (or should I say Jimmi) for about 18 months but he (she) was already about 3 months then. He originally lived with Rosie, who met a rather unfortunate end. Then he lived with Edie, who disappeared from a closed her cage one day without a trace. But now he's got Custard and they love each other loads. Custard is younger, I've had her(?) for about six months, I think she's about 8 months old now. Do you all think Custard's a girl? It's just that they act so much like a pair. They're always preening each other and loving each other; Jimmy even appears to regurgitate for custard. They must just be a very strange pair.

Hi!
Hi everyone, I'm new here, so I thought I'd better introduce my two beautiful birdies, Jimmy (the big green chap) and his buddy Custard. Jimmy likes to think he's a tough guy. His favourite pose is the 'hooded vulture' look. Custard loves Jimmy to bits, so of course, she annoys him regularly by trying to snuggle up when he's doing his Oskar the Grouch routine. I love my birds!

Is This Scaley Face?
Hi there, My beautiful Custard's developed a really rough coating on her cere and beak. I think it might be scaley face, but it doesn't look like the other pictures I've seen of it. Also, there's nothing on her feet or legs that I can see. She doesn't seem to be irritated by it either. She does rub her face on the perch sometimes, but no more than she usually does when she's had a good munch on some carrot or millet. The other problem is that she's quite skittish and is a nightmare to catch without freaking her out (she was older than the shop said she was when I got her), going to the vets will be difficult. Anybody got any ideas?
