Theres no need for salt in the seed. A few drops of iodine can go in their water with doxy but do you know why the vet prescribed what he did ?

Budgie Breeding Pleas Help, Newie
You did the right thing seperating them into their own cages. On e male one female and one nesting boxes per cage. She most likely tossed out the eggs due to the fight and the changes with the cage and nestboxes. For you to change from a double box to a single that would have meant anew nestbox and that change they dont like once they've begun to lay eggs. Most eggs look infertile until around 5-6 days. If you are new at candling you may not have seen the signs. Give her a chance to settle and start over. budgies are over 12 months , right ?

Why iodised salt solution in the seed ?? You can give iodine in their water ( not salted ) ..........ask a chemist or pharmacy for aqueous iodine and add 5 drops per litre of water. Bet the vet was a general vet not an avian vet

Sick Budgie Showing Typical Illness Signs
Agree with Splat.......and additionally a bird that "appears" to be eating most often isnt and thats a definite sign of megabacteria. Not saying thats exactly what your bird has but it could be. Dont suggest you buy any antibiotics over the counter and treat willy nilly without a proper diagnosis. Antibiotics dont treat everything. Your bird needs to be seen by an avian vet. The symptoms are not general ill health but serious. It needs a poop analysis which will show megabacteria rods if its that and antibiotics are not the treatment for mega. Have you picked up the bird and felt the keelbone.....the bone running vertically down the front of its chest ? If sharp its lost serious weight and you need to act. You will never know if you dont go, will you?? Avian vet not normal vet.

Needs A Mate?
Pops you have some very idealistic viewpoints on how things work in the birdworld. To be quite honest its very naive to think you will have a happy ending here with what you have created. You have no control over the safety of these birds. A bird raised as a caged bird and its parents, grandparents having been caged birds...............has no "road sense" so to speak. These birds have no clue about predators and in learning about the predators of which they are now susceptible and at the mercy of, they will in most likelihood become a victim. Just as we advise noone hangs their bird cage outside without supervision, due to attacks by predators, we would not advocate setting free a bird who was cage raised. I hear of idealistic people who buy caged birds in markets, petshops and set them free thinking they are doing the bird a favour. The reality is far from that ideal. They then become a bird that lives in fear of becoming another animal or predatory birds dinner. I fear you are looking through rose coloured glasses here and you will be disappointed and one or both of these birds will lose their life. Lesson over.

Thanks for that Kaz, so should i then throw them out or put them in the nest box and see if they hatch ? Candle them at the right time and then make the choice

Breeding
The mere drop of an egg from the perch, even if it doesnt break, can addle it enough so it doesnt hatch.

When Will She Lay?
Whats the light conditions like where they are. They will not breed well in darkness or half light. They also need noise around them. Too quiet is a sign of danger to budgies. If not enough noise play a radio where they are.

Is It Safe To Add Quails?
We have quails in my husbands Princess Parrot aviary and they do well in there with them. Breed like flies I wouldnt put them in with my budgies as I think my budgies would give them a hard time We worm all aviary birds at the same time so the quails get the same meds as the parrots. S76 in the water. We have had no issues with them in with the parrots, but as Clearwing says quails sing out a little at night and also when startled quails go vertically up into the air like a gyrocopter
