  1. Until you post a picture of the cere its hard for us to know if its a male with issues or a female not in breeding condition. Could be either. Also a bird that makes a squeaky sound can have issues with a lack of iodine. The squeak you describe is one of those symptoms amongst others. Please update on whats going on and add a clear c ere picture please
  2. Sometimes, if all other respiratory issues have been resolved you may find a small respiratory issue has been caused by aspiration of food or water at some point. This can cause an infection in the lungs that will show by staining near the nostrils and tail bobbing if bad enough. Aspiration can happen when a bird is fed ( either food or meds or water ) from a syringe. Some birds actually dunk their heads/ beaks and nostrils under when drinking from a large water dish ( why drinkers are a better idea ). An infection due to aspiration can go on for a long time if untreated.
  3. Gotta agree with you here .....Champ is a beauty Check the bones in the leg. Some chicks hatch with a deformity. They can sometimes have two "knee" joints and sometimes they actually have a section of bone missing in the leg. Its isnt splayed legs in this case. If the leg has gone black and it differs from the other leg in colour, it would indicate a loss of blood supply to the leg and may result in the loss of the limb. please investigate further and reply on what you discover
  4. Peeling off the brown part of the cere is normal. Its part of going in and out of condition. There is nothing unusual about her cere. PS re vitamin A deficiency and staining above the cere. I do NOT believe that staining above the cere is due to a vitamin A deficiency. In consult with a well respected avian vet on this vitamin A deficiency once he stated that you will see feather issues, flakiness and powdered down flaking off...in short snowflake dandruff type effects coming off the bird with relation to vitamin A defiency NOT staining above the cere.
  5. Sheeting the bottom of the aviary works for mice as long as you dont have a soil floor they can dig into as well. Also block holes at roof level if mice can climb anything ( trees fences ) to come in at roof level.
  6. We got rain in Kens parrot aviary last night.....the seed got wet. The seed that got wet was fresh. While fresh from rain the birds love it. I rinse it and give it to them the first day and remove it before night feeding. As there is plenty that got wet, my budgies were given some as well.
  7. I have some whole egg powder here Where do you get seaweed meal ?
  8. Looks real good. Thankyou for posting this with the photos

Because of the safety door ( which is a good feature ) your usable bird space is a whole lot less.

  14. Very pleasing to hear this news Squeak
  15. He should be a minimum of 5 metres away in another room in another airspace. Check our FAQ section on quarantine
  16. How far away from your other birds are you keeping him ?

  18. Definitely a hen
  19. The disruption she has been through and the start off by colony breeding is reason enough for all this. Let her settle down and she will start again later on.
  20. Day one is complete Points Victoria 246 New South Wales 232 South Queensland 195 South Australia 151 Western Australia 145 Tasmania 111 Nth & Central Queensland 74
  21. Doxy treats everything Best of luck. You know....if the iodine is causing an issue ( confer with the vet ) but you could treat him with that further down the track. Better the doxy gets to work and he eats and drinks as normal rather than he baulks due to the saltiness of the iodine. Did the vet also mention that while on doxy no vegies, no other source of moisture and no calcium in the cage ?
  22. Stop with the staged photos already Every photo he is in ....he is not looking well or happy. Forget the photo topic and get him well. If it means a vet....then go.
  23. Really worried is why he needs some tests by an avian vet....poop tests, blood work. Sleepy is a sign he isnt well.
  24. Hi Thanks - that was the other term - going light. What can be done to help/fix this please? Does charcoal help? NO Go to an avian vet. Get him tested. Megabacteria is serious and generic remedies wont help in this case if its mega. VET is the answer you need in this case.
  25. If I was you and If I had the skills ( as I do ) I would be using the doxy to mix a crop feed of handrearing formula and giving it to the crop by crop needle. A skill best shown how by an expert such as a vet or skilled bird breeder.
