  1. I recall you posting this photo once before...............they do seem to be vulnerable like that. Maybe its a feeling they have......being vulnerable and not feeling safe. Any you want to breed shouldnt be out flying free. They need focus.
  2. A lot can be acchieved if you post a photo of the cage and breeding set up
  3. thanks kaz, how did i do on the other mutations as i am not good with mutations You got all the others right. Dont worry about the olive vs grey green thing. Most everyone gets that wrong at first, till they learn what to look out for

Ratzy.............we ALL suffer foot in mouth on occasions or have the need to go off on subjects that are emotive. No shame there. Its about the passion we have for our birds. AND we all have been through our lessons ...good and bad while we learn to become better bird keepers.

Budgies will lay eggs all year round if conditions are right. Conditions being, a safe place to lay the eggs, being in good healthy condition and having plentiful food. Once the eggs are at the 5-6 days old stage you can put a strong light behind them ( leave them where they are ) and point the torchlight forward to where you can see and if you see reddish spidery veins it means the eggs are fertile and will produce chicks if all goes well. Once she begins to stay on the eggs all the time ( incubation) you count 18-21 days to chicks hatching. Chicks hatch every two days mostly as they were laid every two days. Sometimes two chicks will hatch the first days they are due.
  6. So sorry about your bird re the seaweed...........Splat uses it in her softfood mix....she posted it recently.

Some baby budgies have a lot of melanin............it give them a blackish beak in the nestbox which fades off. Some of that black covers the cere making it look pinkish as it fades away. If you can ignore that part of the colour on the cere and look at the layer under it you have the right colour. If its whitish then likely to be female. Best we wait for a good photo tomorrow. Enjoy your cutie pie
  8. Grey green, not olive. Olives have navy blue tails not black. Nice grey hen

I'm not exactly " on board" Pops but I hope it works out for you just the same. Evidence and experience says otherwise but you may be the exception to that rule. We all do stuff in our learning phases........some of that stuff good and some bad. As long as the birds dont suffer in our learning processes. Only time will tell with your situation.

Hey Pops........................not everyone on here has budgies in smallish cages........some of us have large aviaries where we can see them fly fast and long and at speed. There is a diverse group of people who own and keep budgies and we all have our opinions, some stronger than others. My only hope and wish for you and your budgies is that they flourish and do well despite evidence to the contrary and would love it if you were able to prove many of us wrong over a longer period of time. Best of luck Kaz PS interestingly some who have expressed stronger opinions in a not so nice way have, in the past, done some pretty wrong stuff while they were learning what they were about their birds..................so in some cases pots can call a kettle black ....or not

Hey Vicky.... you have done a great job setting up the cage. You have cheerfully taken on board all advice and thats just great. As far as sexing goes your budgie does have an ambiguous cere by those photos ....so tell me....looking at the cere does it seem whitish to you or purplish ? Can you try for a macro photo closeup of the cere...natural light conditions and no flash. Budgie looks about 5 weeks to me based on tail length and wing flights. looks very healthy too. A colour and mutation I love and admire.
  12. I agree with Finnie. Also have a request of you..........................when you post on this forum can you write more details than you do. Getting info out of you is like getting blood out of a stone....hard work. The more you write and tell us the better our advice will be.
  13. Re worming....that would be a question you should have asked SUE.........i.e. when did she treat them last, what with and for what ? Give her a call. Re the OLIVE....is it really an olive or is it grey green. Many people get the two confused.

You chose a lovely budgie and the cage is just right. If the cere on your budgie has a lot of white its a female. If the cere is bright pink to purply blue its boy. Post a clear cere shot for us to tell you but the glimpse I have of the cere at this stage looks male. Final verdict when you post a front on clear photo. PS Welcome **** please trim shorter the longer fringing on the rope swing. Budgies have been known to get caught up and hung by fringing on toys. AND I would remove the mirror bell toy. It does their head in, affects their mental stability and gives them something to protect from you ( the pretend friend they see in it ) and makes them crankier with you. They like ladders. well done Maddy....but not opaline. How did she like the fish ?
  15. What you are seeing is the urates in the budgie poop. Which essentially means they are weeing mostly and more than pooping food waste. I suggest you reduce the apples drastically.
  16. No seeds ? Just apples ? What else are you giving them ?? They cant survive on just apples
  17. I think reserve prices are $30 upwards
  18. Wishful thinking mate. But NO...it wont rectify itself.
  19. Nice birds....both grey greens . PS we have a club budgie auction coming up shortly Metro Budgie Club on SATURDAY 25TH JUNE 2011
  20. Budgies has a serious SERIOUS respiratory issue and needs to get to the vet as soon as you can get there........like yesterday !!
  21. Send me a PM ( private message ) and I will give you a contact for a hand raised baby budgie.
  22. From a practical viewpoint you wont be able to breed her. Hens hips being right is essential for breeding and they have to be able to grip a perch and carry the male on top while they mate. Forget it.
  23. BOY !!! definitely
  24. Easy to do Dean. He's on Facebook and one of my FB friends
  25. 'Not mindreaders.........please post a photo ........clear one of the budgies cere taken in natural light conditions ( no flash used on camera )
