Not all feather cysts are hereditary. Some can be triggered by mites infecting the feather follicle.

  4. I think the mother may have gone out of breeding condition or become unwell partway through rearing these chicks. If it was a pair in a breeder cage you could have removed the mother and let the father finish raising the chick, but aviary is very different. If the chick is well and strong it would feed off a bent spoon at this age. You can feed it budgie starter with a little handrearing mix in it too. Keep a warm lamp by the cage its in.Can you catch the Dad and put it in the cage with the baby and see if he will feed it...the sooner the better. use an upturned icecream tub and use budgie seed for its bedding. From two weeks of age babies in the nest pick around looking for food. With seed as its bedding it will try the food. Dont hold out hopes for the mother caring for it now...wont happen. Dad may do if you can bring him in.
  5. Mauve. Cheek patches are not showing as dark violet at all.

Really cute Does kinda look female in those photos. Will wait for other photos to be sure ( no flash ). Great cage. Suggestion...redo the perches so they are either side of the cage front to back and Dunkin can then fly across the cage. The perches set up the way it is just makes them sidle along the perch and fly across to the cage front etc.

Hey Kaz Lovely baby Uno! She and her Mum should pass on some lovely features to your stud! Also I'm just going to pick on what you said a little bit..... "split for blue" well she technically IS a blue but with the grey gene added - probably a little more correct and a little less confusing to say she is single factor grey. Just me being pedantic Oh and I looooove the upturned icecream container as a refuge idea - I'll have to use that one myself instead of trying to make little wooden shelters and having a real struggle cleaning them. Yeah about the split for blue thing....I just mean I will get blues from her with a blue budgie .......other than another grey Ken keeps wondering where all the icecream containers keep going...I have a secret stash in the birdroom
  8. I am sorry to hear it didnt make it. I had a strong feeling it wouldnt unfortunately, but we all had hopes, and in your loving care it had the best chance
