The one we think is a female has a quite dark cere and also looks a little crusty, but not like scaly face crusty. The other 3 have very light coloured ceres. we dont have any recent photos at the moment but will try and organise some. Thankyou very much KAZ this has been a great help. Also, sorry for the double posting. No problem :laughter:

Mating is recreational budgie sex pure and simple. They can mate all they like and rarely produce eggs from mating ( budgie sex ) unless we give them somewhere to both lay eggs and raise a family. If they are under age ( under 12 months ) its your responsibility to make sure there is NOWHERE they will see as a nesting site.......newspaper on the floor of cage that can be shredded, or large food dishes. A lot of people think mating means eggs and they put a nestbox on regardless of age. if they are underage and you have made sure there is nothging they can see as a nesting site, just ignore the behaviour and reduce their daylight hours.

  7. How many breeder cages do you think you will end up using ?
  8. Since weather is accessible on three sides where will the breeding cabinets go and how many ?
  9. Really good to see Dave. I, for one, know how slow progress can be
  10. Have hatched live twins before and its very rare that they make it to hatching. That egg looks like triplets or quads I have http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....83&hl=twins
  11. anyone going ?
  12. Moulting aid is good. Soluvet is also good.
  13. Put some white paper under the perch and check the colour of her droppings.
  14. Gets dirty just the same but keeps the seed debris in the cage. Sliding it sideways means I can change the paper, change the food, and also vacuum the bottom of the cage with little fuss. Vacuum the bottom of the cage!!! Suppose you'd want to be careful doing that!! Its okay........my budgies usally go to a top perch or into the nestbox when I vacuum the breeder cage Havent sucked one up the vacuum yet

If you are talking about perch size for breeding cages the size used is 16 mm diameter.

The great grit debate. The school of thought is that birds who hull their seeds do not need grit. I dont use grit as such but the birds have access to fine mineral powders such as F-vite or marshalls minerals.
  17. So good to see you back and we klnow you will be very busy Caitlin Rose is a fantastic name.........I love it  Caitlin is a really beautiful baby and you would have to be very proud of her. Look forward to updates.
  18. Black ring 2008 bird breeder code RCA and bird number 086. Track down the ring registrar for Tassie and they should have a breeder name for you.
  19. Would suggest removing the thick branch perches and putting two dowel perches in 16mm diameter each side of cage for mating and flying back and forth. Tree branches great for flight cages but for mating, those ones are too thick, and may make things difficult. Size of breeder cage is excellent
