  1. Bird protectors have been proven to be toxic for birds. They are of no use at all for scaly face mites or any other kind. http://birds.about.com/od/birdcages/qt/miteprotectors.htm You wont see scalyface mites.......they are microscopic and cannot be seen.
  2. If you reread the topic on here about fixing splayed legs it should say also to additionally give one drop of calcivet to the beak of affected chicks daily for a week to ten days. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....hl=splayed+legs
  3. It has nothing to do with how many other budgies you have. Breeding takes a lot out of a pair of budgies. Quite often at the end they feed babies so much and do not feed themselves as well. They feel thin by the time babies leave the nest and they have been through a lot. Keeping them resting for a fortnight allows them to gain weight back and to be healthy before they go out in the aviary.
  4. Thanks Renee  Club info hs already been discussed behind scenes. Cutespangledbub is young and has to rely on parents driving her to club meetings so it may not happen for awhile. I am happy to take her to the swbc auction if her parents agree to it. Re the aviary, you can fit around 100 in there but must have lots of different perching setups and feeding areas.
  5. Generally a couple of weeks is plenty.
  6. Yes.......most likely.
  7. Like I said Shannon the babies are too small..........so in my mind, not a good pairing.
  8. The two babies from this pairing are cute but really tiny. I dont think I wont pair them up again.
  9. If the finches with the feathers plucked from the back of their necks were females, this mostly happens in the nest by the male. You may find that these finches have only just been brought in after having been bred.
  10. Admirable that you are preparing so well and researching  as for the last point............its always best to rest breeding parents after raising babies either in a seperate cage or the kindie cage before they go back into the aviary. It gives them time to build up their reserves and feed well before battling the heirarchy in the aviary

For Dave and Shannon.........here is UNO ....still moulting so not at his best  Hatched May 25th so still a baby.
  12. Looks like the beginnings of scaly face to me. Either ivermectin from the vet or apply oil with cotton swab making sure not to get it in the nostrils.

  15. Love to be able to help Pearce but I dont know one from the other
  16. Wow isnt it always the way...................differing information out there. Thanks Pearce
  17. Found in another topic.
  18. The bowl at the bottom of the cage could be the very thing they choose if they are determined. Don't leave it in all day. Agree...........any bowls of a good nesting size will be eyeballed favourably
  19. Hugs buddy...you are doing the best you can.....you cant ask any more than that
  20. Meanwhile, take a look around the aviary and be sure there will be nothing they see as a possible place to raise a family.
  21. One of my baby budgies once drowned in a dish similar to this.
  22. They have such a way or working themselves into our heart. Some losses rock our very foundations to the core and we are overwhelmed with sadness at their passing. :budgiedance:
  23. Try and remember that seeing budgies bonking in the aviary does not mean they need a nesting box or need to be bred. Budgies have budgie sex at a very young age and budgie sex is NOT a sign they need to be bred. Correct age for successful breeding is 12 months onwards. Earlier than that can be hazardous to both budgie parents and chicks and present you with more problems than you would want to take on board. Prior advice re breeding age of 8-9 months in this topic I would not endorse. A good topic to read................... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=22068
  24. Post a picture. If you are certain it is male, then the other option is it has the beginnings of scaly face mite. BUT to be sure we need a clear cere photo.
  25. In a nutshell............ STUNNING !!
