Sleeping Budgie
Great news. I had one that had a leg splayed but not to a great degree....he was able to perch too. Its encouraging when they adapt.

I think the birds do too LBB They seem excited in there, and taking flying lessons Kindie cages are in there till I sort out all the birds from them and also till I remove them tomorrow. I am putting all red and blue ringers in one aviary and older ones the other. Meanwhile top of the cages is one of the places to hang out. Thundra ( named by Dave ) is moulting

dropping questions
Normal budgie seed as in budgie mix ? or supreme breeders mix or budgie breeder ? Budgie mix has added oats and less canary seed usually. Spinach every now and then should be vegies every day....green, grated carrot, apple etc. Try a little more often. Mashed boiled egg for protein. Millet is in your seed mix anyway. Multivitamins arent needed of they have quality seed and fresh vegies each day. Breeding aid.....in the soft food or seed or water ? Its meant to be added to seed Directions: - 20 mL per Kg of seed. Add the required amount of Breeding Aid to seed and mix well to ensure an even spread of the oil. Leave the seed for 24 hours before feeding to the birds, (it takes some hours for the oil to penetrate through to the seed kernel). and it can go rancid very quickly in hot weather.

Citric acid is as Generic Blue has stated. Some people use it to balance the gut. You may be overdoing it...try not using it for awhile.

Do they have pure clean water as well or a break from additives ? Additives spoil water very fast.

What are you feeding them ?

My Aviary....start To Finish
The two other kindie cages are in the way at the moment. And the full distance is not quite 6m. Ken and I are doing the external cladding of the front aviary right now, so all birds can go in and be safe. Once thats done I will take more pictures. If you mean take pictures from the back door of the house to the aviary, there is too much building cr*p in the way right now. I have noticed now that more birds in there have learnt to fly fully front to back and gain enough lift for the perches.

My Aviary....start To Finish
None of them are flying into windows...some are flying into the tin. More of them learning now how to use their wings and some lift and gain enough height for the perches I went to grab a cute pied boy and he took off leaving all his tailfeathers in my hand, so he will have to wait to go out into the flights

My Aviary....start To Finish
I have started releasing some youngsters into the first secured area of the two flights so far. I am having to take legring details and photographs as I go to update my records especially as I had a programme crash earlier in the year. Mostly releasing some of Omelettes first clutches for 2009 and then others. So far only one has found the high perches the others are enjoying the perches at the windows and also are perching atop some of the kindie cages in there as well. None hitting the windows, a couple thought they could fly through the corrugated iron sheeting

Looking great Dave

Building Materials
You buy paints deemed child or baby safe. But if your framework is external and mesh internal so the birds cannot chew the wood, it wont matter.
-
Building Materials
Metal framing is better as budgies chew wood. BUT not everyone can work with metal framing so we do what we can. Any paint deemed safe for babies would be safe for birds I expect. That does NOT include ALL acrylic paints. Just because a paint is acrylic or water based doesnt necessarily make it safe for birds.

How Blue Can A Hen's Cere Be?
Post several pictures taken in natural light. Until we see pictures everything is purely guesswork.
-
Anyone Know What It Might Be?
I had two budgies who started out laying eggs in a coconut shell too. Best you remove it as they will try to raise babies in it but they arent big enough for a family of budgies and the babies will fall out too soon.

My Aviary....start To Finish
As the windows are on the side and they will fly the length of the flight...they shouldnt. Also its why I put the perches in front of each of the smaller windows.....if they are tempted to fly at the windows they will land on a perch instead.

How Blue Can A Hen's Cere Be?
Hens cere is blue with white...............I dont see the nasal rings thing others go on about. BUT a hen too young or out of contdition will have a whitish cere with blue. If your unsexed bird has any white on its cere it may well be female.

My Aviary....start To Finish
If the cages of birds I put in there yesterday is anything to go by I think the birds will be happy in there
