Mutation Question
As I said in my posts above................. to have hens and cocks opaline from him the mother must be opaline, because he isnt. He is split opaline only. To get both sexes in chicks being opaline, both parents must either be opaline or the mother opaline and the dad split for it. Thank's Kaz, So if I bred Hulk with a normal or non-opaline HIS opaline/ wouldn't come through? Would his chicks be considered split opaline in either case? Normal/split Opaline Cock × Normal Hen gives you Normal/Split Opaline Cocks Normal Cocks Opaline Hens Normal Hens and the normal cocks and split opaline cocks will all look like normals but some will be split and some wont...the only way to tell if they are split opaline is by breeding them.

Is This A Good Breeding Setup?
Unfortunately.........budgie breeding is NOT something that can be done on a budget with odds and sods of cast off recycled substandard or too small cages. You WILL have to spend some money on them. Happy healthy birds breed. You have to get things right for the birds or you are destined for disaster.

My Aviary....start To Finish
We have just experienced a flash flood thunderstorm. I now know before winter that the new aviary leaks in a few spots, some pretty badly where the laserlite sheeting joins the corrugated sheeting and also up the end where the open section is too. Back to the drawing board

Mutation Question
I am sorry................HULK is NOT opaline at all. He is split opaline and his previous hen was opaline.............BUT he isnt visually an opaline and that is HUGELY obvious...no amount of telling yourself he is visually opaline will make him a visual opaline as he isnt. He is a normal green not opaline, but split for opaline.

Pink Budgie
Does NOT pay to pull random pictures off the internet JB as we know that to be a bird of Barrie Shutts and there is a story behind that which is NOT a natural pink budgie. It is a joke Barry was playing on people at the time. I think you know this already ?? So shall we ignore this pink budgie ??????????????????

Thinking About Joining A Club
We have people join clubs who have pet type budgies but unless they get into the spirit of things ( showing etc ) quite often they fall away through lack of interest. You could try breeding a line of show budgies only in yellowfaces .............YF blues, or violets. That would peak your interest in the colours but maybe get you interested in having some you could show as well ( show to show breeding though not pet to show ). I kept pet budgies and show budgies for a long time until I decided the pet types had to go. Basically the pet breeding side was paying for my show budgies initially. Find a club you like, where you like, and go to a few meetings/shows and see if you want to proceed. Noone will force you to join if you are just trying out the whole experience for a meeting or two.

Albino
These guys can be hard to sex, but since theres been no cere change of colour and theres no white or slight crustiness leftover, I would say you have a boy No scalyface either

Is He Ready To Breed?
I know there may be SOME but it isnt the majority thank goodness. And just because some may do it, is no good reason for anyone to advocate is as a practice to employ. Taking notice of the little things as was done in this topic...................Jeddo said YES based on cere colour alone Bad advice. Sorry Jeddo....but it was bad advice. I saw the legring, not to mention the location of bar markings on the head and the lack of white iris rings. Blue metal legband issued here 1st September and most breeders didnt use the new rings until January anyway.......but it still makes the bird too young to do a good job as a father.

Budgies With Scaly-face Mites.
This is common advice from all vets these days. In my own personal opinion its a knee jerk reaction they have to the amount of sick birds they see. Mostly sick birds on seed only diets with no extras. They faily to recognise much of the time that there are budgie owners out there that DO feed a wider more varied diet including all the vegies and natural branches etc. I think a wider varied diet is far superior to a man made pellet diet, and one should never give upon seeds totally and use a 100% pellet diet. My opinion only.

Is He Ready To Breed?
It must be said, that when there is advice given, sometimes it pays to see the experience of the person giving the advice. Not everyone just because they answer a topic has the experience, knowledge to be advising someone in the right way. For instance Jeddo is 14 years old and has four pet type budgies and thinks a coloured cere is enough to go by for breeding age. A budgie can have a coloured cere at 4-5 months old. That doesn make the budgie old enough or finished growing enough to be a breeder themselves. Anytime you get advice on here you can click on the members name and see who they are and what they actually know by cruising their other posts/topics. A young male can fertilise an egg yes....but he likely wont be able to fully raise chicks or feed them well enough either. Some budgie males too young think the eggs are there to be eaten, some go into the nestboxes and fully soccer the eggs around like they are soccer balls. You cannot expect a male that young to be a dedicated partner or father in breeding. Give him time to grow. At a time where he still needs nutrients to grow himself, he would be trying to feed chicks. Not good , not good at all. **** Aditionally........there is a duty of care we, on a forum, have to bear in mind when offering advice, especially if it then makes a young member think they can go off and breed babies.
