you already had a breeding pair Not brought up before but I seriously think you need to change your cage. Vertical cages like that are designed for canaries and finches. Budgies need a wider cage set up so they can fly across it. Your cage with the nestbox up in the "attic" is not ideal. Have you trawled through our faq section yet ?
  5. Recently John Ennis ( Geelong ) had some Texas clearbodies for sale.

Hi, unless you explain your first post I cannot comment. But in googling your email address is comes up as a spam attempt, spam listing and spam report. If you arent a participating member with budgies and explain yourself further you will be deleted.

  10. No old band used here because if it matched the X2 and meant 2002 the ring would be black. These gold ones are the current rings distributed in Sept 2011 for the use in the year of 2012My answers in red

Good to hear you have it worked out and it so totally makes sense too. Re sexing....... Female budgies who arent in breeding condition will have a cere that is both blue and white so if the pale blue you are seeing is also whitish then that budgie is a female
  14. Well, just because there is no nestbox doesnt mean the female wont think its a good idea to start a family if she likes the boy well enough, so the thing to do is make sure there arent any large seed dishes, snugglehuts or similar that she will think makes a good nest......if you buy a boy budgie. Girl to girl budgie combinations usually means squabbles over perches and possession of things. They do this more if the cage isnt massive and room to get away from each other. "English " budgies is a term some people use but is mostly frowned upon as wrong terminology as most of us here know the budgie to be australian especially when the budgie being spoken about actually lives in australia too :D PS Welcome
  15. Not likely ........... the first signs would be loss of flights and tail...............however it may develop that way within a week or two so watch and see. Possible other causes might possibly be feather quill mites ( mites inside the feather quill in the bloodstream ).
  16. 2012 rings came out in September so hes hatched anywhere between sept 1st or a few days before that to now. He isnt a 2002 bird or the ring would be black He's a baby
  17. Welcome

10 cm is 4 inches.....the average size of a pet type budgie's torso in most cases. and 20cm is around 8 inches.............hence the confusion over the size of the bald spot you talked about Are you sure that both budgies are males? After 7 years, you probably would know, but I just wanted to double check. Also, longer hours of daylight could be contributing to their hormonal problems. You could try covering their cages for at least 12 to 14 hours per night. Sometimes that helps throw them out of the mood. I agree with Splat. Humping stuff in the cage is normal and nothing to be worried about. The aggression problem probably comes in as a result of them trying to protect their "mate" in the mirror from you, the competition, or from each other. (Another reason mirrors are bad.) It will probably take a long period of no mirrors and long nights to get them past this stage. I don't know if they will ever be safe to live together again. That may just be a compatability issue that has worsened with age. I also have to agree here and disagree with most of the comments made by Bird Junky
  19. your post or photo will show up until such time as a moderator makes it invisible

  21. You've been away from budgies too long JB........time to get some and an aviary
  22. TAKEN FROM THE BUDGERIGAR STANDARD FOR SHOWING Jimmy three toes forward disqualifies a budgie in a show....the usual is two forward and two back not three Your budgie seems to be a skyblue greywing
  23. Its a BOY. His cere is miscoloured due to a hormonal issue, which sometimes can indicate testicular cancer in the older boys. I think he needs some additional iodine and he should be fine.
