thank you all (so sad when I look at his pictures) he had a personality all of his own it is hard to describe.
  2. They are the best bet Neat , I know he will be fin especially since her phone number is (heheh) and everyone will be checking on him. Good advice Aly, I actually am going to do that and have started typing a strict Merlin care sheet . My MIL thinks I am nuts with my animals anyways but she respects that I do love them very much because she sees how I care for them.
  3. Welcome back!!
  4. The nice thing that I have learned about animals is that they don't live in the past or the future they live in the now and we don't know what is going through their heads from the past experience so she is reacting because she hasn't formed a bond with you. You have been given good advice. I suggest also that you read my article on Taming in the FAQ section there are different approaches you can use. The first thing you need to do is gain trust and I personally would start with getting her to come to you on her own by putting your face next to the cage and speaking to her quietly along with closing your eyes and blinking a lot (predators stare at their prey so you don't want her to think this). She already doesn't trust your hand and putting a glove on it isn't going to help (my opinion) you need to get her to come to you instead of you putting in that big hand which will now be bigger because you have a glove on it and now she really thinks she is going to be eaten. She is viewing your hand as a predator and knows she has been hurt by it before. You know it may take a couple months or six months to regain trust remember trust is broken quicker then gained back but you can fix it because trust me she is willing she just has to get over it and she will with your help and patience.

There are no vets on here but if you are looking for a list of registered Avian Vets there is a link that list them independent of BBC and it can be found in the FAQ's.

I know I am going to be quite busy this weekend and I wanted to do this so I don't pass it by since Pretty was such a special boy in my life and for a short time that he was here is made such a difference in the way I view budgies. He is the very reason I started posting on this forum to find more information to take care of him and now it is almost 3 years later and I have way too many posts and am a global mod and it is really all because of this special little budgie that touched not only my heart but the hearts of many on this forum. You can click here to read about when he left for Rainbow Bridge. The Day Pretty Went to Rainbow Bridge AND Pretty's Story It will be 1 year since he died in my hands on Saturday, March 15th. So Pretty...mom and Merlin love you, Hailey still talks about you. You brought so much life into our home and hearts, you were stinky, you learned to talk and you taught us how to love such a wonderful little being. Here are some picture (some may be dups already on the site) Pretty's first days home... He loved the cats He loved his veggies (but not at first took 3 months)[imghttp://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d51/elly1210/100_1015_400x266.jpg[/img] He had bad hair days But no matter what he was always gorgeous He flew like an angel (I let his clipped wings grow back in and he was never clipped again) He loved to sing his pretty songs And most of all he loved Merlin Never goodbye only until we met again sweet friend....
  9. (Laughing out loud) : that makes me feel so much better...considering that they bought a budgie for my husband and they found it dead in like a week (it was probably the husk thing) she said it was Tim's fault because he didn't feed the bird COME ON PEOPLE he was like 10 at the time...HELP ME.....I will review with her on this!!!!
  10. I am so sorry Kaz....when one of your birds pass away I feel like my own have at times because I get so attached to them and get to know them from your posts...BIG VIRTUAL HUGS
  11. hehe...he needs to be saved, I am worried about him totally... today he came up to my nose and started to flirt with it before it was just my fingers he is getting kind of close now longer daylight hours makes for a you know what man :
  12. I think so because I don't remember them so defined I just love when they have such a contrast vs the lighter not so sharp markings.
  13. Well Merlin is going on vacation to my MIL for the week starting Sunday. We are going to have different sections of the house painted and I can't keep him here even if I could open windows it would be too dangerous. So he is going to pack his toys, food & small cage (as the big one is too much for her house) and going to stay with Grandma & Pap for the full week. Please pray for him I love them but they are not the most saavy people with pets, they love them but the care is not like "moms" - and trust me is it not a case of I can do it better. So here is Merlin...ready to go...
  14. I agree with Liv on the wing clipping it is one of the fasts ways you can work with budgies and one of the most harmless ways and if doesn't work out the wings grow back either way
  15. OMG that is so so cute...maybe use one of those pics for the Picture Caption Contest or all 3 and put them together birdluv? So SWEET
  16. I really believe your spangle markings on your chicks are getting more defined Kaz, they look wonderful
  17. It is not on the danger list but with every fruit it should be organic and I would feed only 1x a week as they can have a tendency for diaherria.
  18. OH OH that is AWESOME....CLAPS!!! Way to go Lucas and you too mom you are one strong lady!
  19. Yes in all seriousness, Liv is right he is just being flirty...with spring coming our way the birds sense breeding season is on the way. I know that fall is on the way for you but if you decrease his daylight hours and ensure he is covered 10-12 hours a day and you can increase a couple hours more for a week this behavior will stop.
  20. I don't think a wild one would be as easy to catch either, they are also much smaller.
  21. Oh I remember this one
  22. When he vibrates his wings is there anything at that point upsetting him or did he just try and get around and now he is trying to calm back down? When they vibrate their wings they do it out of fear or when they get really hot and they usually move their wings away from their bodies. Continue to do what you are doing if you find that he is getting worse instead of better I suggest another avian vet visit and ask for an x-ray as Kaz suggested to insure there is no internal injury.
