the maple you have in your yard will be fine, we have small maple tree that I made Merlin's perches from, you want to make sure that you are picking branches from woods that are not bieng treated by pesticides or no ones else is treating their yards near by.
  3. Very nice, have you entered your pics for the Wet Budgie of the Month Contest, it ends at the end of the month...

Most likely not, you would have to go to a pet shop or bird pet shop that specalizes which can be pricey but you know is safe.
  9. First, never grab a bird that gives them the sense of you being a predator and if you want him to trust your hand grabbing or fast motions is not the way to do it. Second, yes I would get his wings clipped until he has learned to trust you he is flying because he enjoys it but he is also flying because he is unsure of you and if you can't safetly get him to step back up on your finger on his own so you can put him back in the cage then clipping or teaching him to step up all the time is what you will need to do (but that is very hard with clipped wings), once they learn the step up command then you can just let the wings grow out and they will step up all the time, at times they do get stinky though and will revert (Pretty did) but I didn't have the opportunity to clip him as he passed away, Merlin has had 2 wings clips in his life one by his previous owner and 1 by the avian vet after Pretty died since then he is flighted because he will fly back on the cage and then he steps up for me all the time .

I personally would not buy wood at a store unless it was marked "bird safe" or made for birds because you don't know what type of treatment or pesticides were used in the wood even if it is safe, I have found that getting my own wood from my backyard is best but if you can't do that then buying only "bird safe" wood is best. Hot gluing is okay, I don't believe that "glue" us toxic but we will see if anyone else as experience in this area.
  11. One thing to note any budgie that can stick his head through the bars and get stuck it means too the cage bar width is too wide there are different size spaces for different birds.
  12. You have been very good advice, the best advice I do agree with is ensuring he is getting 10-12 hours of covered cage sleep time this is very important when birds get hormonal, you can even increase the cover for 14 hours for the next week to calm down the behavior, it is really more frustrating for him then anything and there are things you can do about it to change the behavior the one above is the best start, getting a mate is not a solution as there are many unwanted birds out there like there are cats and dogs and simply giving them a mate to blow of a sexual frustration is not right in my eyes (this is my personal opinion), breeding any type of pet (or animal that we own) should not be taken light because there can be complications and then there are babies.

Oh my what a handsome one he is thank you for sharing.
  16. Budgerigars prefer as much room to exercise as possible. Available space will dictate the size of the breeding cage. Commercially manufactured Breeding Cages range between 12 inches height x 18 inches wide to 18 inches height x 36 inches wide. Depth being approximately 12 to 16 inches. Experience shows that the larger the breeding cage the more successful the clutches. (need to add picture of large breeding cage) You can also click here for more information Here is mre information too CLICK
  17. they look female to me from the ones that I saw, the cere is a bit blurry, they are cute congrats

  20. sounds like she is a bit hormonal with that particular side, I would rearrange her whole cage...toys, perches everything to make it a different setting, if that doesn't help make sure that your birds are getting at least 10-12 hours of cover cage time this keeps them in check with the hormonal stage.
