Yellowfaced Pair Producing Normal Blues
Haha (Laughing out loud). It's okay Rainbow. I have just been studying for my animal genetics and breeding paper. What you said about the percentages is probably right too. There are most likely, other factors that we do not know about coming into play. For instance with Izzy and Saffron they hould have produced 50% whiteface and 50% yellowface however out of 6 babies, 1 was whitefaced and 5 where yellowfaced. Saffron also didn't produce any green birds, so I am starting to wonder if she is actually a really deep yellow, yellowface type 2

Yellowfaced Pair Producing Normal Blues
Yes I know. But the y is the recessive form of the Y gene, thus it has lower case letters. In genetics, it is proper to use the same letters for the same gene locus, or they become confused with other genes. It is the nomenclature. For instance the C locus in mammals is the albino gene. An animal that is cc is an albino and animal that is Cc is not. Same with the dilution gene. An animal that has no dilution is normal and is dominant however it is assigned the letters DD or Dd, even though a DD animal has no dilution allele, at the dilution locus it has two normal dominant alleles known as DD. A diluted animal is dd.

Rainbow. You got your percentages wrong. Pairing two yellowfaces together. You will get 25% DF yellowface, 50% SF yellowface and 25% white face. When assigning letters to genes, you use capitals for the dominant genes not for the recessive genes and you use he same letter for different alleles of the same gene. There for a DF yellow face would be YY a Sf factor wold be Yy and a whiteface would be yy. If DF yellowface type 1 appears white. Yelllowface type 1 is an incompletely dominant gene. Whereas if DF yellowface type 2 appears to be mottly yellow then it is an autosomal dominant gene.

Interesting Health Facts About Budgies
I now feed my budgies a canary seed mix as the budgie mix that I was previously buying was just millet!! And that stuff is so fatty.

Look Who Came To Have A Look At My Breeders Today
He looks like a Python to me. I love snakes I think they are cute. Although, when they are trying to eat your budgies that's another matter.

Finally. Pictures Of The Bubs!
Actually. I'm going to change Azrael's name to Alopex, Azrael sounds bueutiful, but it doesn't roll off the tongue easily. This way I can call him Aloe for short. . I am gonna call the blue opaline spangle Kito. Still haven't got za name for purple thing yet.

Hi :)
Hi and welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Branches
What ever you do, do NOT use oleander. Very poisonous. However, apple, poplar and willow (these last two are used for stock feed, so I gather they are safe) are goo and fine for budgies.

Finally. Pictures Of The Bubs!
Well I finally got pics of my babies. Like I said, I don't have a camera anymore, so I had to use my web cam. Some birdies are a little hard to see, because most of them seem to be quite afraid of laptops being shived in their faces and I can't zoom in on this thing.! Anyway, enjoy!! This picture is of Arkady and his adopted daughter a yellowface type 2 cobalt opaline spangle. These are the other two babies from saffy and Izzy that Arkady and Isis fostered. On the left is a little grey wing cobalt spangle boy, which I think I will call Azrael and on the right is the little yellowface type 2 cinnamon opaline violet spangle, who I handraised for one day and then put back under Isis. She is such a bright violet in real life. The lighting is really bad. Bothe the opaline spangles have no names yet: Cobalt YF2 opaline spangle girl again: This is Nikio the violet opaline daughter of Arkady and Isis. Behind her is Itha: Thought I would take a picture of Izzy as he was the only one singing about the fact that his pet human was doing strange things with that plastic contraption: The two boys I am going to sell. Brothers to Nikio and Itha: This is the breeding cage family. They could probably go out this week: Azreal: Boy flirting with his mum : These are these nifty wild bird feeders i picked up, which allow the budgies to feed without you having to blow the husks away. It's great! And these are my fishies.

What Brand Of Bird Food Would You Prefer
I like the Kaytee fiesta diets those are good. But expensive now that i have more budgies and am a poor student. Lately i have been feeding more canary seed mix as the budgie seed mix I bought was mainly white millet, which I thought was way too fatty. I have also heard Passwell's Parrot crumbles are very good and there is also budgie supplements and breeding food from that range and insectivore mix, which is also good as a supplement. )

Why Do We Breed?
If you think about it, everyone, breeds for fun. No one is obligated to breed budgies. No one has to own budgies and breed them. It is people's choice to own budgies and breed them, and they do it because it is fun, entertaining, they enjoy it, not because it is a necessecity of life. I mean, we don't need to breed them to eat them and breeding animals is very rarely profitable.

Any Ideas ? Unusual Budgie Baby
The grey gene and the yellow series genes are in diffrent loci. They may not even be on the same chromosome( actually I don't think they are because then they would be linked, which they aren't). Grey is not another allele of the yellow series. There is only two alleles for that loci and that is yellow based and white based. The grey gene is in a different locus and it has only 2 known alleles. Grey is not codominance, it is incomplete dominance, which is very different. Thus you can have a grey white base bird, or a grey-green bird which is a grey bird in the yellow series. Getting back to Bubbles's cinnamon chicky. It is an opaline. My Nikio is a violet opaline and her wings look spangle on the top, but with normal flights. Her tail feathers are navy blue, but they have white splotches all the way down them. Opaline messes with the wing markings as well as the colour and thus, you are likely to get some spangly looking wings. However you look closely and you see the shaft of the feather is still pigmented. Spangles, don't have that. Therefore that baby is a cinnamon opaline, which is very very likely to be a girl. Just on a side note, i have a cinnamon opaline spangle violet yellowface2. Note: Alleles and genes are not the same thing. You have a gene. For example the base colour gene. The alleles are different forms of that gene. eg, yellow base and white base. The loci or locus is the place on the chromosome where that gene occurs.

I think you are a very brave person and you are doing so well in spite of what has happened to you. Pretty was a lucky budgie to have owned you.

In Desperate Need Of Help!
When he bites you, don't react to it, or else he will think it is a game and continue to bite you. Just ignore it and he will get bored. This will take a little while for him to realise that you won't respond, so just keep up with it. You could try tunneling him in your hands.
