i like these good debates! this one has certainly made me think twice. Teapots rattle is the 'seemles' kind with no sharp edges, or parts that his beak could penetrate, same with his teething ring. but, having said that, there ARE baby toys in softer plastic where he could penetrate with his beak. Perhaps it could be a push in the right direction for many of us to check, check, and check again our beloved pets playthings.

well over here the standard of safety (re toxins, sharp edges etc) where baby toys are concerned is extremely high adam, though im sure that must be a worldwide thing. I found the tip on another avian site, tho i look at so many i cant remember which one it was now, or id give you the link so you could have a look and see what you think.

good point budgieteen! i was thinking along the lines of solid rings, but yeah, the liquid filled freezable ones could be dangerous! thankyou!

i read this little hint on another site i visited. a cheaper way to provide your budgie with fun, colourful, and SAFE toys is to look in the babycare shops! they love rattles, teething rings etc, and they are all of a very high safety standard. Teapot has a rattle and a teething ring now, and he loves them so much!

i will try that also, thankyou johnny i just like to feel that Teapot is eating all the right foods that he needs to keep him in the best possible health. (oddly enough, he has developed a liking for curry, maybe i need to find some curry-flavoured egg food, (Laughing out loud)! )

cpritzyl hows your little bird doing now ? and bird death, the little bit of info youve just given jusnt tell us much, but what makes you think that your birds passing could be your fault? sometimes our birds get sick and no matter what we do, we cant reverse it. even if there was something wrong that maybe an expert could have spotted, but you couldnt, dosent make it your fault

    i'll try that hath

yes theyre funny when they start doing their acrobatics arnt they! sometimes poor old teapot comes a cropper and falls off his perch or cage side, but luckily always manages to right himself before he lands!

ive just had a quick look! it loks good i shall add it to 'my favourites' on my pc. im always adding bird sites, be it just budgie sites, general parrot sites, whatever. i cant seem to satisfy my desire to learn more and more about our feathered friends, all feathered friends in fact
  10. chirpy replied to ~The Netsta!~'s post in a topic in Budgie News/Facts
out of all the different breeds of our feathered friends kept as pets, the budgie is the one most likely to stay in the same home for all of its life.this is partially due to the fact that budgies do not have the great lifespan of a lot of its feathered counterparts, but also because the budgie is the most amiable, easy natured and pleasant of the caged birds. Also, the budgie can have a vocabulary of up to 500 words! also, you can, on occasion, come across a hen that will talk, but it is rare.

its probably a blessing that he wont fly, imagine the harm he could do to himself. id just keep on as you are doing, keep giving him lots of attention, maybe carry him round on your shoulder so he get some 'movement, but i wouldnt venture far with him at first in case it spooks him, just walk slowly and smoothly round the room, talking to him all the time. does he like baths? perhaps bathtime could be a nice treat for him, but let him hear the water being splashed about a bit first so he learns what to expect. help him do almost everything that he could do before basically, but under carefully controlled conditions. i do hope he continues to progress well, you clearly love him and care deeply about his welfare, so im sure he's leading a pleasant life, despite his disability. keep up the good, loving work

Teapot used to sneeze quite a lot, and I used to worry myself silly over it, I noticed that it usually happened when he got a bit excited tho! I kept mentioning it to my vet, who said Teapot was actually fine, (after checking him thoroughly) Now and again, Teapots sneezes were a bit 'splashy' but only very slightly, and he always managed to get me full in the face when he had a splashy sneeze! keep an eye on your bird tho, because sneezing CAN be a sign of a respiratory infection, especially wet sneezing. In the main though, if its just an intermitent thing, and he is bright and happy and eating well, its usually just a bit of dust irritaion, or, as in teapots case, excitement, (Laughing out loud)! Do you have a good avian vet? Never be afraid of ringing them up for advice if you are concerned. I pester my vet to death if im worried, he's used to me now! :(Laughing out loud):

Hi jodie well, rainbow has answered your question abut quarrantine perfectly it just helps protect your current bird/birds from harm, and its well worth doing. As for your other question, if you go to MY CONTROLS in the main menu (its at the top right hand side) and click on it, you will see on the list that opens on the left all things to choose from, like 'edit my signature' 'or edit my avatar'. to get teapots picture on all my posts, i clicked on edit my signature, and uploaded teapots picture on to it. press okay once upload has been completed, and BINGO!

i have teapot in a parrot cage, and id say its well big enough for two budgies also teapot chatters a lot to himself, but im able to spend lots of time with him, so im pretty sure he isnt lonely (although i have wondered) dont forget he may not be quite as tame if he gets a feathered pal, and if you dont want to breed, get another male, and remember to quarrantine. good luck

    youre very welcome angel :bluebudgie:

he would be miserable and lonely if he was alone apart from 1/2 an hour each day, so id take him to your mums. your mum could start visiting him right now, and putting little treats in to his cage and talking to him, so when he does go to her house, he will be comfoted by the familiar prescence. use the same blanket that you use at home to cover him at your mums, and tell her his usual routine and fave foods etc, he should be fine with all these small links to what he is getting used to. please dont leave him alone, take him to your mums. and have a nice holiday :bluebudgie:

it sounds like he's coming along great now! with my budgie, teapot, i always cover his cage completely around 9 in the evening so that he does get that much needed rest and sleep :bluebudgie: try and keep his sleep patterns regular, it will help him settle, and if he's settled, he will become a much calmer, happier little bird

can it be fed dry? it says on the oacket ive got 'moisten slightly with water', but teapot wont even sniff at it! and also, what benefits would he gain if he was to have eggfood in with his diet please?

i think he's probably being a tad fussy. u could try crumbling some seeds off his millet spray into his normal seed, see if that does the trick. if he appears well in all other ways, i wouldnt worry too much to be honest. just keep an eye open for other changes, but im sure he'll be fine

hows your little pal doing now?
  21. chirpy replied to a post in a topic in Health Questions and Tips
just for now id take all veg/fruit out of her cage, as that could aggravate the problem. if she is enjoying her millet spray, id let her tuck in, as many new budgies prefer the sprays to anything else, as it is often what they are used to in the breeding aviary. also, as the others have said, id try taking her to any vet, and ask them if they can ring an avian vet if they unsure how to treat her. worms can cause messy poos, and it could be as simple as that. before i knew my avian vet, i had to take my bird to a normal vet, and they rang around for advice. she did land up being wormed (with a tiny dose of dog worming medicine) and it did do the trick at the time. good luck

how sad that is ! as well as doing what tequila says, i would also get into the habit of talking in a very low voice to your budgie whenever you are approaching his cage, so he is aware of your approach and isnt startled when you suddenly 'appear'. maybe also if you could keep some soft music playing quietly in the room whenever he is alone, so he isnt sat in total silence aswel as darkness? i dont know what else to suggest really, except to closely watch your pet for signs of depression, not eating etc. im sure he'l adapt to his new situation in time. give him lots of quiet, gentle love to help him through his adaptation to his new way of life.
  23. thankyou everyone! im glad everything is as it should be then. i wasnt worried as such, but i wanted to be sure that i wasnt neglecting him in any way (i.e dietary needs) and slowing down his development. but im happy now. and yes, his vocabulary is certainly very colourful, (Laughing out loud)! i cant believe how well and clearly he can chatter, but with me constantly yakking down his ear its no wonder really (so my daughter says) (Laughing out loud)! :(Laughing out loud):

id think it would be water based if its washable hath, but itd probably be better if you went to a proper stationers and asked them, they should be able to tell you
  25. Teapot is approaching 8 months old now, but he still hasnt lost all the bars on his head, his cere hasnt yet turned proper blue, and he has no signs of the white ring round his eyes! and he's never had a full moult to my knowledge. he's very bright and clever, and a brilliant little talker, so im not at all worried, just curious as to whether or not he's just imature for his age he even LOOKS very babyish bless him!
