My wife had the ordasity to ask me if I thought I'd be like that when I got old and lonely!!! But no I don't think I just saw my future

uh-huh, and what are your girls doing as we speak??

haha, MB what are they doing? Are they behaving?? I don't even know :laughter:

Yes they are being very good little chickens, they got in to trouble for lots of VERY loud chatter today though and so spent an hour sitting outside in the fresh air while I did stuff outside.

haha  Hope it was all friendly banter.... they can probably hear the boys calling and are argueing over who gets who... little do they know they don't have a say :laughter:

Yes, it did seem to be as a result of lots of louding chatter from the aviary so I think they were just talking back

My only issue with this is that he said he started with 2 which means the poor guys have been inbreeding like mad to get to 1700

HAHA WOW THATS ALOT! does that mean they interbreed? oh the poor things. would his home be bid enough for 1,700 budgies? and who sat there and counted them!

Its a 2 bedroom flat, doesn't give measurements... but yes 1,700 inbred budgies is a lot...Must of stunk for the building to be termed, 'Unfit for human habitation.'

That is horrifying! The air would have been so thick with feathers and dust that the man wouldn't have been able to breath very well.

Geez! 1700 babies from only 2 sources of blood :)

Ugh, that's horrible. 1700 babies from 2 birds! They would be so horribly inbred, I could imagine a lot of them having problems. And imagine the noise! I can't stand the noise of 10 budgies when I'm in the same room, how could he cope with 1700!!! Must be deaf by now!

And to get 1700 birds, he would have had to be breeding them for some time. Imagine the layer of poop! Gross.

How long would that take? If you started with one pair who bred at 1 year and they had 18 babies in the first year. Half of them would be too young to breed in the second year, so that makes about 11 birds who can breed for the next year. That gives you an average of about 100 in the second year. In the third year you would have the first two, the second 18 and half the 100 to give you 70 birds of breeding age. That year you would expect about 600 babies of which 300 would be old enough to breed - and there you are at more than 1700 in the fourth year - hmmmm. Yep, I think i could fake sanity for about four years. :(

Glad you did the maths... :) I still struggle with my 2 X tables...

When good budgie love goes bad...I hope birds find good homes.

He is just showing us another part of ourselves. It is very easy to become obsessed with budgies!
