September 16, 200717 yr Me too Norm. Pie what makes you say he is a green bird? Edited September 19, 200717 yr by Nerwen
September 17, 200717 yr Nope- have had parents of the pied bird for years, saw family of father and no yellow faces. Have had numerous clutches from parents and alot of blue birds and no yellow face. I cant see how many more breedings I would have to do with this pair for it to appear. Have had father over other hens and it not come out. Unless its the mother- but she cant be split, doesnt show it and pretty sure the breeder didnt breed them. Alot of the greens from this pair have blue under the tail and no YF has popped up from these yet. So no YF **forgot to say all the greens feather up with the blue around the vent, then it moults out with the moult- also no blue anywhere else ie under wings.** Edited September 17, 200717 yr by the pie
September 17, 200717 yr His yellow is way too light to be a green. That logic doesn't work Pie. When Saffy and Izzy had babies 50% of them should have been white faces, only 1 out of 6 was a white face. Theoretically 50% of them should have been violet too and only 1 out of 6 was violet Little miss Bacardi is very special being a violet, opaline, spangle yellowface type 2, cinnamon the likeliness of another coming out just like her again is 1/32 or 3.1% so you can't rely on that sort of logic. September 17, 200717 yr How far back would I have to go to find YF in the line? It cant be split and if the parents/grandparents arent then they shouldnt be either
September 17, 200717 yr What colours are the parents of this bird? If they are green, one could be hiding the yellowface gene
September 17, 200717 yr Since you know the history of this family I would then think you are right. No matter that the bird NOW looks like a YF as a bub should have had blue on the chest as well not green.
September 17, 200717 yr Author How far back would I have to go to find YF in the line? It cant be split and if the parents/grandparents arent then they shouldnt be either If the Parents & Grandparents are Blue birds & haven’t shown any YF’s then he mustn’t be YF, but if any Parents or Grandparents are Green birds, as Sailorwolf says, it could be masked for generations. I used to have birds like this when I was young & thought it was just a normal variation, but since YF’s have become so common, I have just put it down to Green birds carrying it.
September 18, 200717 yr Norm if both the parents were blue birds then it definitely wouldn't be a green bird.
