Hello to you all was reading away here and thought i would let you Know about feeding budgies pine cones . I have been giving these to my budgies for years . The pine cones are the large ones that open up as they dry out { like chrismas cones }, Just collect them up and throw one in the cage , the hens seem to like them more then the cocks , they shredd then to bits . I have also found that Im not replacing the perches as often anymore as the budgies are chewing the cones rather then the perches :P

Hi there, thanks for the tip :P Sounds like a great natural chew toy

and i also found this one..

CHRISTIE'S PINE CONE TREATS

Ingredients:

Several clean, dry, open pine cones

1 cup of your bird's favorite seed mixture

Beaten egg white

Method:

Mix bird seed with enough beaten egg white to make a mixture that clumps

together (neither runny nor crumbly)

Stuff mixture into crevices of pine cones and either microwave or bake in

oven on low heat until dry.

Allow to cool and harden, then hang in your bird's cage for a treat that

will keep them amused for ages.

This seed/egg white mixture can also be used to make treat sticks or other

moulded shapes.
