Parasites -

. In some cases parasites can be an indication of another disease.

Canker: Aka Trike, Vomiting a lot of mucus and seed ( not regurgitation), Feather on the face and head are stuck down, Bird will look ill and will soon die if left untreated. They will spend time at their food bowl Pretending to eat but they can’t swallow the seeds…

This Parasite is passed from birds to others by eating food and drinking water that has been contaminated by saliva or vomit from an infected bird, Or infected parents feeding their young. This is very contagious in aviaries.

Diagnose: this by an avian vet who will perform a Crop wash – Or post mortem of a dead bird.

Common treatment is ronivet

Prevention: All new budgies should be have a preventative treatment while in quarantine…

Also known as Trichomoniasis caused by the protozoa Trichomonas gallinae

This protozoa lives in the upper respiratory tract and may result in ulcerative lesions in the mouth, pharynx, oesophagus and crop. These lesions are called "frounce" in falconry.

It is transmitted by birds regurgitating food from their crops and feeding others. Commonly from parents to young.

Another species of Thrichomonas causes vomiting in budgies
