Just thought I would review books that I have, that are worth owning. I think some may be out of print but a browse through any secondhand book shop can be a worth while venture.

The first is a book from Mr Scoble. A book ahead of it's time full of detailed info. Copies are still available on Ebay.

The next is a great book from Stan and Barbara Moizer, again another detailed book full of colour pics. It is laid out A to Z so nothing is missed.

The next is one of my favorites, by Michael S Christian it is worth owning for the awesome colour pics alone!

The next lot are GOLD!! The best series of books I have come across. It is a eight book series covering all the varieties with advice from the experts of that variety. These are as rare as hens / budgie teeth.

I have read all these many many times over. If you ever see any for sale they are a real investment, so keep your eyes open!

More books worth owning to come.

yeah I guess I invested well then I have MOIZER and CHRISTIANS books... will be on the look out for the others.

A couple more

The budgerigar Man, Harry Bryan the best breeder to date! 1919 and still winning 1991.

Gone now, his contribution to the world of budgies is unquestionable!

Mr Bink, best in show first published 1974, but still is quite technical in content.

?action=view&current=book4025.jpgbook4025.jpg">

The oldest book in my collection from 1954. It surprised me with it's content. Especially for the more thrifty among us, it gives you a accounting view on the hobby.

I was about to add...THE BUDGERIGAR MAN by Roy Stringer too............excellent book but I see it has been posted.

Also the "bible" of budgerigars....not just for show...for everything is this one

Yeah Kaz

It looks great, I will have to get around to getting a copy. At $145 it will be the most expensive single book.

I think Budgerigars for pleasure and profit would be interesting... I wouldn't imagine that you could make much of a profit in budgerigars....

They are great books. The one on Harry Byron has a special place in my collection. A very good friend gave me my copy. :D

Hi everyone.

My first post on here. I was about to ask the question "What is the best book for a beginner" and I come across this thread so thank you.

I already have John Scobles book and it pretty well does cover everything.

If you are looking for second hand books I highly recommend http://www.abebooks.com/

Cheers

Throwback, I just moved your post to outside Derek's quote.

Hi Derek and welcome. Feel free to introduce your self in the 'your flock' section of the forum. I look forward to getting to know you and having you as part of our 'family'. :D Maesie

Yeah JimmyBanks

I thought it would be good for a laugh when I purchased it back in the 80's but it content is just as relevant to-day as it was in 1954. Record keeping was actually a bit more detailed with a $ value added to the pair breeding. Cost of feed, cost of housing them, cost of medication estimate value of young. There is a good chapter on Founding a Stud also.

As far as making a profit, some of the top birds at Actions are going for thousands. But I suppose you have to offset that to the cost of setting up and running the stud.
