May 21, 201113 yr Yep I have a lot of larger perches in the aviary and it does seem that these promote even more lazy use of that little toe, causing it to slip even more forward. My preference now (if I had it over again) would be to have all natural branches including all the little sticks as the birds seem to get much better exercise of that toe by gripping onto tiny branches. The only issue I have with these are the little sticks sometimes hang birds up the the leg ring but hanging them pointing down has fixed that problem.
May 22, 201113 yr No change yet and by the sound of things there may never be a change. As long as your showcage conforms to the current standard you will be fine. HEY PT nothing mentioned at our shield selection today on perch size which is unusal not much about anything down here How did you fare. Our best result yet Seven going for a weekend away. . Dont think we have anything that will shake the budgie world but byou never know Cheers TAZ D . Edited May 23, 201113 yr by **KAZ**

Pipped you by one - got 8 going for a plane ride. Will see what happens. Spoke to the guy who runs the BCV trade table - did not sell any 16mm perches but had sold a few 12mm. Some gossip - we hear Tassie are talking about a "handicap" system for the Nations due to the dominance of NSW and Vic. What a joke. Best of luck next weekend. May 23, 201113 yr We conducted our selection show yesterday and none of us noticed ANY issues with the perches either way really. The bigger perches didn't seem to promote toes forward anymore than the smaller ones (we made an effort to look closely at this as we went around). Just an interesting aside.
May 25, 201113 yr We have been encouraged to purchase the larger perches and not knowing the politics and being novices in the exhibition world we have done just that. At least half our show cages now have 16mm perches. It will be disappointing and frustrating if they go back and we have to just throw them away...... My first State show and I have 3 birds going to Nats
May 25, 201113 yr I havn't bought any of the new perches yet im waiting until i have to change them. I havn't heard any opinions on them yet good or bad yet. I have one that made it in the team going this week so im really excited.

May 26, 201113 yr It will be disappointing and frustrating if they go back and we have to just throw them away...... I've not seen a show cage for a while but I was sure the dowel rods are just screwed in from the back. Can't the dowel be changed to the different size?

May 27, 201113 yr Thanks Jeff! The competition wasn't that tough this year though and the proof will be in the pudding at the Nats as it always is for little old WA! Sorry but not being in the IN crowd anymore and not having ANY results read out at the selections I'm not sure how many of yours are going..... Good luck with yours too. I enjoyed the judging as well - definitely found myself on your side re: that nice danish pied grey - would have liked to have seen it on the bench just to SEE what the outcome would have been. Kaz for me: 1 green 1 blue 1 grey 3 BES 3 lacewing 1 clearwing 1 hen in the name of G&G House Edited May 27, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
