Posted November 11, 200816 yr Last night I woke up about 11pm with my 3 girls all flapping and panicking, obviously they had night terrors. I have had the problem a few times but nothing of concern. I got up and put the light on until they had sort themselves out, then turned it off and went back to bed. I woke up this morning and there was blood on the floor of their cage. 3 drops around the cage. There was a little bit on Muffins wing, but it was more as if she had run thru the blood while it was wet, more so than an injured wing. What causes the night terrors and what is the blood likely to be from? Also, Muffin hasn't got her long tail feathers thru yet, she was born at the end of June. Should she still only have really small tail feathers? Thanks
November 11, 200816 yr Night terrors can happen if something like a cockroach runs through the cage at night, also if lights flash across the room. Cockroaches like to hide in the seed trays under cages. Re the feathers...yes she should have them all by now. Post a photo so we can tell if she has french moult.
November 11, 200816 yr The blood could be from a broken/bent feather... it would be best to check the girls to make sure and remove the offending feather if you find it. You don't want it to continue bleeding too long. My Casper once had a night fright and broke a blood feather in his wing... blood everywhere cos of all the flapping! But he was fine once it had been removed.
