Hey all

One of my new hens has been in and out of the breeding box for the last few days, I think that maybe she is wanting to lay eggs, the thing is that she hasn't got a mate (she was sold as a single bird, I asked if she had a mate and he said no she wasn't interested in the others thats why he got rid of her) and I'm not sure about her raising baby's on her own, will she be okay? should I help with the feeding if she does lay? Should I remove the breeding box? Or am I just panicking way to much.

Cheers

I would remove the nesting box. She probably won't be laying any viable eggs if she hadn't paired up with anyone prior to you getting her. If an egg is laid, just addle it or it may even be laid on the ground and break anyway. She seems to be motivated by the nesting box.

When i first got my female she would go back and forth in the nest box so i didnt know what was wrong but i knew that she wouldn't lay eggs because my male was still like 3 months old but the best thing u should do is remove the nest box and find her a friend.
