Posted May 8, 200619 yr This is the boy I bought a couple of months ago. I put him with a lovely Lutino: He sure doesn't waste any time! Edited June 4, 200618 yr by karen
May 8, 200619 yr Bet their babies will be just superkaligisticfragistlictpexpallidicious (or close to it).
May 10, 200619 yr Author He is an Australian budgie - the only type of budgie there is. I checked their box today & there are now 3 babies!
May 10, 200619 yr Oh so gorgeous!! I love the first picture, they look like shy teenagers!!! I love baby pics! Can't wait to see fluffy butts!!!
May 10, 200619 yr He is an Australian budgie - the only type of budgie there is. okay, now I am confused...thought there were English Budgies and American Budgies (most people here call them keets)...the whole size difference and crest thing and all...I know that the wild Austrailian Budgies are smaller than the captive ones....are your birds from the wild?....and what do people mean when they call them English or American if there is only one Budgie?
May 11, 200619 yr All budgies originated from Australia.....budgies are an australian bird. English budgies are so called, I believe because they took the australian budgie to England and changed it by breeding in certain traits and characteristics for show purposes. We don't usually call them English budgies here. They are called mostly Club budgies or show budgies. There is NO American budgie just an Australian budgie that was born and lives in the USA. To us, here, it is weird when you guys call them English Budgies and American budgies. While we know its just terminology to describe a budgie type, some of us get a bit funny about it. It's like ....if an emu lived in the USA and you guys started calling it an American emu And like when an Australian movie actor goes to live in the USA and is then claimed as America's own Sorry, it's just they way some of us feel when those terms are used. Just a terminology thing. No more no less Edited May 11, 200619 yr by budgiebird
May 11, 200619 yr I am sorry if I offended you. It was not my intention. He just looked like what I have heard budgies that look like him called so that was the only way I knew how to describe him. Anyhow, is he a "Club Budgie"? He looks very fancy and quite sure of himself. :-)

Like when we are particular about the exact description of a mutation. This is the same thing. Karen would be best able to tell you of her birds origins and will I am sure. Some of our ordinary budgies here can be quite large and showy without being a club budgie. I have some quite large birds. It seem mostly that the more budgies are bred and possibly interbred the smaller in size they get. Although some mutation produce quite small birds too
May 11, 200619 yr Thank you for explaining. I appriciate that you took the time to do so. I will try to keep in mind in the future that alot of the members here are from Australia. When you are in here chatting away its hard to think about demographics! (Laughing out loud)
May 11, 200619 yr Author (Laughing out loud) sorry missdawne but I am one of the one's who refuse to identify a budgie as anything else than an Australian budgie. That bird is what is known as a mutt. Bigger than a pet budgie but all the wrong characteristics for showing. Breeders who breed their birds for show only keep their good birds and sell off their "mutts" to novice breeders like me who like their looks. He can be bred to good hens to improve his line via offspring but he in himself is not a good show bird - he has terrible colour. But I like him anyway.
May 11, 200619 yr Thank you Karen for clearing that up for me. He sure did look bigger than my bugs so I figured he had a little something extra in him! I hope all your bugs hatch out well and grow to be in fine feather!
May 20, 200618 yr Author Taken this afternoon, it looks like all 4 babies are going to look like their dad. They are all very quiet babies too which is a refreshing change. Dad even ate apple from my fingers today! That is great progress as he used to freak & fly really fast away whenever I went near.
