Posted May 5, 200619 yr okay, I finally had time to take pictures and download the pictures of Pretty's new home and Merlin's soon to be home too . I really like this cage because though it is huge it is really light and rolls easily so I can roll it into the living into my office etc... Makes it nice so the birds are still mobile and with the family. I need that because of the cats. Sorry the pictures are dark, I apologize. Can you find Pretty (Laughing out loud)?? At first he was really quiet but he is fitting right in. He flys across all the time and perch to perch. I kept the middle open as Shawna suggested and it works perfectly. The perches are the ones I made from the maple tree in our yard. We don't spray our trees so that is the only branches I will use. He really is so much happier in a bigger cage, gosh I recommend everyone and anyone even if you have 1 budgie to really get a big cage it makes such a difference. A video with Pretty and infamous toy balls, yes I put them back in but I am going to take them out when I have Merlin and him housed so there is no issues. He is so attached to talking to them, singing them and banging them around. I felt bad when I took them out because he just sat there, so he is not nasty or anything with me with them so I figured it was okay to give them here and there. I also put them mid way down therefore he takes advantage of the whole cage when I first put him in he only stayed on top. let me know if it doesn't work. sidenote: he is starting to talk and I am really working with him. Of course he is hard to understand and does it all in his mumbling he is saying Pretty Bird and Stinky Bird (I just heard that today) (Laughing out loud). Because I always call him a Stinky poo when he gives me attitude.
May 5, 200619 yr Looks great Lovey. Looks like you have lots of great stuff in there! You'll probably rearrange things a dozen times. I'm still shuffling things around. Can't wait til Merlin joins Pretty!
May 5, 200619 yr HAHAHAH ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! YAY LOVEY! I have the cage too! Same colour! ! ! ! However mine has two doors, and i didnt get the one with those platforms for rodents Id say take out the ladders, and planks...and add more perches I have 6 in my cage.... and if you ever need to divide the birds, i move the metal grate up, and wedge it against the walls...but since i have two doors, they each have their own entrance, other then your case, if you open the door, both halves have time to escape (Laughing out loud) . . . . . . ENJOY IT ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I know Pretty will! and baby Merlin eventually! and are those rodents, or reptiles in that aquarium? Or possibly crabs since you covered the lid Kirby Edited May 5, 200619 yr by Kirby
May 5, 200619 yr Author thanks all, great advice Kirby. When I rearrange I will, right now Pretty likes the platform and I put his veggie on there so it works out great .
May 6, 200619 yr The platform is a cool feature - wish mine had at least one. I'll have to see if I can rig something up. I can see lots of uses for it So it came with that long ladder too? Edited May 6, 200619 yr by Shawna
May 6, 200619 yr Wonderful cage !! I wish I had one as a spare cage. I need more jail cages for segregation and troublemakers.....only they would think it was a reward for bad behaviour.
May 6, 200619 yr Author Looks great Lovey. Looks like you have lots of great stuff in there! You'll probably rearrange things a dozen times. I'm still shuffling things around. Can't wait til Merlin joins Pretty! Thanks, I still have a rope perch, a fake wood perch and a calcium perch to add that is still in Pretty's old cage which I cleaned out for Merlin to play in. I actually keep him the smaller cage that he is used to at night it fits in my computer room on my shelf and then I lock him up away from the cats. The cats still find him tooo interesting, Pretty is not anymore because they are used to him. I love to rearrage so I will be doing it all the time most likely and yes I can't wait until they meet. The platform is a cool feature - wish mine had at least one. I'll have to see if I can rig something up. I can see lots of uses for it So it came with that long ladder too? Right now I love the platform he flys from the platform to a natural perch on the other side all the time. The platform is great for putting a veggie bowl or whatever and he actually taking out the veggie and using the platform like a floor to eat them off. I also have the buds from the natural branches sticking in the holes gives him something to do by picking on them. There wasn't any poo so I was impressed. Yep it came with the long ladder too, he used it once so far. He usually doesn't venture that far down but I put the balls down there that he likes to encourage him to use all of his cage. Wonderful cage !! I wish I had one as a spare cage. I need more jail cages for segregation and troublemakers.....only they would think it was a reward for bad behaviour. :ausb: Time to buy one off of ebay You really do need them just in case.
May 6, 200619 yr Great cage Lovey! Wish I could get one to make life easier for myself and cut down on some of my cages but to put all or some of my guys together, not a good plan based on the year round breeding activity or fighting. :ausb:
May 6, 200619 yr Author you sound like you have it all worked out though, there should be no breeding unless Merlin turns in to a girl and even then we hope no no with no nesting box :ausb:. You have to give us an update on your birds
May 6, 200619 yr Author well it sure puts alot more on his ego - I think he thinks he is the sexiest bird now in the US, we know Blinks is in AU :ausb:. He loves the space, and lately he has become more affectionate running to me when I talk to him and really getting close and he even kissed my nose for the first time a couple days ago. Made me feel special but out of the cage he is still stinky.
May 6, 200619 yr QUOTE(budgiebird @ May 5 2006, 20:20) Wonderful cage !! I wish I had one as a spare cage. I need more jail cages for segregation and troublemakers.....only they would think it was a reward for bad behaviour. QUOTE Lovey..... Time to buy one off of ebay You really do need them just in case. answer: I am rearranging the birdie feeding room today with a cupboard along one wall for better storage of foodstuffs and equipment. Leaves above the cupboard free for new breeding cages and the hospital cage etc. Need more light in that room though so .....thinking, thinking :ausb: I need more breeder cages for specialised pairs. Daz why dont you live closer ? I have a bank of 3 breeder cages but they are joined vertically. Must shuffle things and see what I can do with the space. Need more cages so I will check ebays prices. Local shop near here sells good size cages ( bigger than breeder cages ) for $49....I got one for Lin once. Your wonderful cage has got me thinking about changes Lovey.
May 6, 200619 yr I am glad I have inspired you wish I lived closer I would help you We would help each other and you would have your yellow pied by now too and visiting rights to Bubbles and all the gang. Didnt get much done in the bird room today ( as Ken had flu and needed to help me shift cupboards ), but more to do tomorrow. Organisation is key ( you told me that once )............ By the way I think your new cage should be the Budgie Ritz as we are all getting grand names for our posh budgie hotels Will update on new and improved budgie facilities tomorrow and update Sasha and Shiloh's photos.
May 6, 200619 yr Author Tell Ken to feel better Organization is the KEY Budgie Ritz sounds great Looking for more pictures for sure!
May 6, 200619 yr wow, great looking cage!! Lucky little Pretty, and Merlin too when he's out of isolation.
May 6, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud)...Lovey, are those rodents in that aquarium then? Or . . . . . . . How many birds are you tinking of getting Loevy? Or are you stopping at 2 for now? Kirby
May 6, 200619 yr Author nope no rodents in our house (especially next to birds...disease, biting etc..know that one) There are hermit crabs in there , I posted their picture a while ago. I move Pretty's new cage around (Laughing out loud) so much he is used to be mobile so that is my office when we are in the living room he is in another place. Good eye though because some people don't know that rodents and birds don't mix. Right now I am stopping at 2, I want to make sure these 2 stay tamed I want tamed birds at this point not aviary style and I like to get to know them 1 by 1. But I would like more in the future.
