I just introduced Max in Bringing Home a New Budgie. I'm just wondering what is his mutation is? He has a yellow face, yellow pied spot, and has a beautiful grey belly with a little grey green colour near his tail.

I think you have a yellow face type 2 Mauve. Or maybe a goldenface.

Since his cheek spots are blue he can't be a grey, they have grey patches too, or greyish blue. So the next one is mauve which is a blue with two dark factors.

he is stunning :D Even if he isn't spangle.

I didn't know you had a new bird. He's a cutie.. Mauve is one of my favorite colors. I love him.

Does that make my fluffy a mauve too ? A1x003x.jpg

Type 2 yellowface grey pied. I don't think mauve, mauve is more of a greyish-purple and won't have the greenish feathers.

budgiebird, I think fluffy is a grey. :D

he's not pied, no pied patch(that I can see) on the back of the head nor does he have recessive pied markings, looks like he's going through a molt, thats probly what made you think pied?

Yeah I can't see any pied marks, the greenish colouring in his feathers is from the yellowface gene ( what is making him type 2, or goldenface)

Fluffy is a grey her patches are the grey-blue I spoke of.

Max definately has a pied spot - I'll get a picture in the morning. He basically had a twin at the petstore - same colouring with just the small pied spot. But no banding at all on the tummy.

I think Fluffy is a yellow faced blue grey with the grey being dominant.

I think that Max is a yellow face blue grey as well.

Here is Angel a normal Blue grey.

Here is a grey cinnamon - Ash ;)

you have to remember both of these birds will look a bit different than a normal white faced bird becuase of the yellow that bleeds into the body.

Daz what are you meaning a Blue grey?? To get the grey colour of a bird you need the blue gene as well or else you have a grey green.

I've always believed Angel is a mauve.

I believe you are correct in the mauve Nerwen as Rocky has been described as a mauve cinnamon and here he is looking just like the picture of the bird Daz posted .....also Fluffy is neither mauve nor a blue grey arocky2.jpgA-feb54x.jpg

PS sorry Shawna about the side subject here.

Well It was when I saw angel that I really knew/felt she was mauve. Daz was lucky I didn't try and hide her in my hair ;)

;) She would probibly given a hair cut by the time you got to the car :D You could be right with Angel being a double factor blue. (mauve). this is where my colour blindness comes in. ;)

Grey on a blue bird is Grey. Grey on a green bird is grey green.

Base colour of blue is white and the base colour of green is yellow.

Normal - Mauve

Cheek Patches are Violet

Tail Quill is Black

Tail Feather is Very Dark Blue with Black Sheen

Does this help... I would say Yellow face as I can't see the bleed from the mask to the chest.

Are you really colour blind Daz ??? ;) or just joking ? My brother is colour blind and still swears that dogs and horses are mostly green. He shopped for clothes for his kids once........OMG :D and he picks the weirdest colour cars than NOONE else would have ;)

I was diagniosed as a kid with Blue Green Blindness. I can see colours but some shades look the same. I have problems with Reds and Browns and fawn colours... ;) Don't ask me to pick a colours for painting the house.

Shawna you didn't (Laughing out loud) he is gorgeous, Merlin is the same way no one would know he was a pied if you didn't see the back of his head (Laughing out loud)

Shawna he is gorgeous!! I love the yellow face, man I hope I can find another one with a yellow face. They are one of my favorite mutations!! I love him!

So that means that "Skeeter" is a normal mauve right.

Yeah, I did. I left the store, went out for dinner, and just had to go back and get him. Finger's crossed that he will tame really well - so far so good.

Grey on a blue bird is Grey. Grey on a green bird is grey green.

okay I thought you where meaning a normal grey with your 'blue grey' :D

My aunt is completly colour blind.

yes Skeeter looks mauve too.

No - the first line is what I think Max is. I was just referring to Fluffy because you asked if he were mauve. I know Fluffy is not pied. I was not very specific, was I? Plus, Fluffy's cheek patch looks light blue-grey to me, not just blue. On my monitor, it matches with the grey coloring.
