September 7, 200717 yr How do you get the holes through the dice and domino pieces? I bought them that way.

January 4, 200916 yr Reviving Bea's thread cause I'm also on a toy making craze. Below are some made out of beads, buttons, 'scoubs' (plastic beading thread), broken toys, and random plastic things from my craft box. I am not too sure about the birds chewing on the scoubs. The budgies haven't obsessed over it but my conure chews on everything, so for him I made sure to conceal them as much as possible. I have seen them used in commercially available toys and a couple members here including Bea have used them, so I think they are okay. Octopus! Pretty in pink Here it is in action as part of a captive foraging toy. Over the rainbow Obviously not a budgie, but he loves this thing - lots of different shapes to get his beak on, and it slides along the wall as he plays with it. Here are some older, simple ones as well. These were a big hit when they were in. So nothing flashy but it's effective - it keeps them occupied for a good time, every time something new goes in there. Extremely cheap, fun to make and easy to replace - when one breaks, I gather the beads and make something new (it's also one of the cutest things in the world seeing them run around with a big bead stuffed in their mouth!) More soon. I'm planning to use a more natural thread, paper, wood and things to shred - more to Milly's taste! :laughter: Edited January 4, 200916 yr by Chrysocome
February 5, 200916 yr what a great thread. I was about to go out and buy some new perches like Bea made but instead I'm heading to the hardware store to get the bolts and stuff. Those perches are really exxy from the petstores! Actually I have an old had it perch I bought a while ago I am going to pull apart for the hardware off it!
February 11, 200916 yr I'm having this whole woodworking craze at the moment. I'm experimenting with new natural perches so you will see my efforts soon. I bought some really thin balsa that I thought would be great for playing with. It snaps very easily. I made this toy today - it took me only a few minutes, cost almost nothing, is easily replaceable, and is a great chew toy. I bought some balsa wood blocks as well - stay tuned.
March 3, 200916 yr This is great And my mom thought I was the only person crazy enough about birds to make their own toys. All the toys, feeders, swings and perches my birds have were made by me, easy and cheap! Edited March 3, 200916 yr by Cory
March 12, 200916 yr Wow, awesome toys, guys! I'll have to try making some of them for Beanie, he loves toys (more in a 'i-can-destroy-this' way, but never the less...) haha
August 27, 200915 yr There are some great ideas here! I plan on using some of these ideas to add to a cage-top jungle gym I made last night (son is kind of "over" the rods & spools thing, lol) .... short video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMFvuHRzgrk http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/wanda23/junglegym.jpg Edited August 28, 200915 yr by maesie Changed image to link as it was oversized

March 8, 201015 yr My turn! I've made little toys before, with bells & silver & gold coloured bits (I make jewellery so I have lots of bits & pieces) but these are my 1st bigger things! ... & they have Peanut's seal of approval!
March 12, 201015 yr My stuff from My Parrot Shop arrived today and i was eager to make my very own Baby Disco. Too easy! Took me about 5-10 mins! It was cheap too, all up it would've cost me about $7 which is a lot cheaper than the $20 i would pay to buy one made. Bea, I just love, love, love your baby disco..!!! Can I please ask what size wiffle ball you used? I've been looking around in stores since I first saw this post, and have come to the realisation that I'm going to have to order the bits and pieces online (most likely from My Parrot Shop too) but had a look and discovered that these wiffle balls come in different sizes! Any help would be much appreciated. After a long couple of months, my 2 are finally in the last few days, starting to play with the toys I've been buying for them - yay! But I really would love to just make them something. Ta
September 22, 201014 yr Love this thread. I'm planning on ordering supplies in the next few days to make some toys for Albie. In the meantime however I took inspiration from Chrysocome's post with cardboard tunnel and I used a toilet roll and stuffed it with shredded paper (old bills) and pegged it to the side of the cage. Albie has been having a ball with it all day. It took him all of 30 secs to start playing and I was suprised at his attitude and determination for such a lil fella. Happy to report we have a happy and tired little budgie tonight!
