Posted August 23, 200420 yr Hi all, I had four budgies in my cage, 2 are females and 2 are males. The two females were constantly fighting with each other and I separated them because i thought it would help them out. During the time they shared with each other one of the females would go into the other budgie's nest box and drop the eggs on the ground causing them to smash (two eggs were dropped) When they were in different cages the females were alot happier and weren't aggressive. However, one of my males passed away for some unknown reason. One morning he was in hiding and then i found him on the ground unable to walk. He was about 7 years old now so i guess it might have been old age. I have now put all three budgies back together, so there is 2 females and 1 male. They haven't even fought since which is making me less stressed. My male budgie is now following around the female budgie he wasn't paired with (she is also the jealous attacking one). She keeps jumping in and out of the nest box's but i dont think she is going to have any eggs - she's very much a scatterbrain. Anyway, my question is will the budgie who originally laid the two eggs continue to lay eggs even though the male is interested with the other bird? The jealous bird hasn't laid any eggs either, will she lay eggs? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Simon
August 24, 200420 yr Hi there, If i were you I would put the hens in seperate cages with a nestbox each of there own, Then you can run the **** bird with both hens by putting him in one cage for a couple of days then the other. Hopefully he will mate both hens and they will both lay eggs. As the chicks hatch continue to swap him back and forth between hens he will happily feed both of them. As long as all birds are in breeding condition all should go well. Another alternative would be to get another **** bird for the spare hen. To have two pairs in one cage is not a good idea as the hens will always fight for the nestboxes.Throw out others eggs, attack other babies, and even kill each other. Hope this helps.
