Posted April 26, 200619 yr Hi all, Just a quick question about heat lamps, I had to take 1 of our Budgies to the vet today, and is now on antiboitics. The vet said to place a lamp close up against the cage to keep them warm, and to help him over come his illness quicker. Do I need to use a lamp shade on the lamp, as its just a normal lamp, and how close do I need it to the cage? Thanks for any help on this. Chris
April 26, 200619 yr I wouldn't use a light shade. Use a low watt bulb, and place a few inches from one side of the cage. That leaves the othher side of the cage cooler if the bird needs to get away from the heat. I'll leave others to add to this, as some are more experienced in this area than me
April 26, 200619 yr Thanks, what wattage globe do you reccommend, and do I leave it going all night, and for the next how many days? She is on antibiotics for the next 8 days. Cheers Chris
April 27, 200619 yr Yep, leave it going all the time, or, if your worried about safety, you can pop the cage onto a hot water bottle, as long as you are willing to get up during the night to refill it
April 27, 200619 yr Thanks for all your help on this one. Will post pics of my two budgies next over the weekend. Cheers Chris
