Posted April 25, 200619 yr Done a bit of searching on the net and cannot seem to find out what colour poo should be for a healthy budgie? Could someone please tell me? Many thanks Fleur (& Basil )
April 25, 200619 yr it should be black with white in the middle if they just ate greens it could be dark green but only after greens. And it should not be runny.
April 25, 200619 yr But do remember your bird is still young so it make take a couple of days for him to adjust, whenever I take my birds to the vet , they do have runny poos as they get stressed out but ideally it should look like a dart board . Edited April 25, 200619 yr by Phoebe
April 25, 200619 yr Basil has been doing green ones with white in the middle...this is obviously not normal? Could it be just because he is adjusting to a new home?
April 25, 200619 yr The colour could be related to the stress of a new home etc it should settle in a few days, just keep an eye on it. jason OH by the way congratulations on getting Basil
April 25, 200619 yr Thanks for the replies, it has eased my mind! I love the new addition to my family!
April 25, 200619 yr That' sounds pretty normal to me. Fresh ones with my birds have always been a dark green colour and when dry black, with the white bit which is the urine. If it's a lime green colour then it can be a sign of sickness.
April 26, 200619 yr I've had to look at this website a few times because of changes in poo and I thought it was pretty good http://www.parrotchronicles.com/septoct2002/droppings.htm
April 27, 200619 yr Normal depends in good part upon diet. Birds fed a mainly pelleted diet will have more brownish colored stools, while birds fed mostly on seed will have dark green feces. Feeding vegetables will for the short term change the color too - carrots will turn the feces an orangish-brown color, broccoli or spinach will turn them very dark green to almost black. Blueberries will turn them blueish-purple.
