Posted April 24, 200619 yr With this fancy link given by LusoPeriquito I compaired my bird's colours to these and got an happy result, one I was hoping about but not willing to think about. It's a bit hard to tell with some becuase of the yellowface (goldenface) gene. Pie- not the best picture but the one that shows his trues colour. As always thought: Cobalt Echo: who seems Cobalt as well I was thinking more sky blue and Marine: I can't really pick it can any of you? Reepicheep: Seems sky blue is a match and Cobalt for little Scuttle in the background. Squeaker: YAY Violet!! I was thinking this for a while but didn't want to twisit myself into keeping him if I had to give him up. I found another photo of Marine when he was young: Edited April 24, 200619 yr by daz
April 24, 200619 yr Nerwen the one on the left looks Golderface Parblue. Also with Squeaker becareful who you breed him with. He will inhanse some colours like lutinos but will mess up others. He will make Dark greens look Olive and Sky blues look Colbalt. (But they are not true colours) So you have some Sf Dark Factor Birds... Try for a Double Factor Dark Factor Edited April 24, 200619 yr by daz
April 24, 200619 yr Author Yeah I know that Daz I thing a dark family line would be good. And the one on the left is Marine and he is Golderface Parblue. If squeaker got the gene from Marine then maybe Echo and Berry are sky blues with the violet/dark gene making them look cobalt. All these brids are the same family Pie the father for Marine who is the Father of the rest.
April 24, 200619 yr Yes you could be right... It's hard to say when you have a violet apear. In the show Budgies they are considered good but you need very good records to track them.
April 24, 200619 yr Hi Nerwen! Glad the link is working out for you. I hope it may help others too. The colours shone are the "ideal", but as we know many budgies will not be the exact ideal colour, so we have to go with the closest option. In Marine's case, I would say he is closer to Violet, yet the yellow face (type II) is spreading some greenish colours to confuse us. Nerwen the one on the left looks Golderface Parblue. Daz, Since not everyone reading this will be an expert on colors and genetics, would you explain that better (Parblue I mean).
April 24, 200619 yr Parblue is a term short for Parital Blue on green. It occurs to a blue bird when the yellow face bleeds into the blue changing it to green. There are two forms of this mutation. a yellow face and a golden face. The golden face is more buttercup yellow, like Nerwens bird. They are pretty birds but no good on the show bench.
April 24, 200619 yr They are pretty birds but no good on the show bench. Here he comes with the show benches, and the humongous budgerigars that look like pigeon size with chicken heads!! We do not care if our small size budgies (all much lovelier then those “best in show’s” you so love) do not make show levels… well I’m actually glad they don’t. I bet you if we showed them to their original creator (God) our little Australian budgies, so imperfect to your eyes, would get approved and show ones wouldn’t. : (Laughing out loud) Just kidding….. I do not want to be kick out by an administrator!!
April 25, 200619 yr Author It's interesting little facts But I'm not after showing budgies. I enjoy myslef the small 'clowish' pet type budgies. But I can also see the work and grace in the show budgies too. As long as the bird is healthy I'm happy.

April 27, 200619 yr hmmmmmmm..... Wouldnt Squeker be a yellow gaved blue type II? Like marine? Or whatever Marine is then? Since the baby pics look exactly the same? Kirby ps-they are all soooooo gorgeous!
April 27, 200619 yr Author Yep He is Kirby And I can see when he gets olders it's going to be hard to tell them apart.
April 28, 200619 yr Author that is to say a yellowface type II Not yellow gaved blue type II? Not sure how I read that before and not see that :(Laughing out loud):
April 28, 200619 yr I always thought that a violet and a cobalt could be similar in colour but the colour was determined by the colour of the tail feathers???? What I mean is that cobalts have navy tail feathers and violets will have a turqouise tinge about the tail feathers. off to do some research....... What I mean is that cobalts have navy tail feathers and violets will have a turqouise tinge about the tail feathers. off to do some research....... lol Violets are a different colour strain than colbalt. Blue Strain No Dark Factor = Sky Blue Single Dark Factor = Colbalt Double Dark Factor = Mauve Green Strain No Dark Factor = Lt Green Single Dark Factor = Dark Green Double Dark Factor = Olive. Grey Stain On a blue Bird = Grey On a Green Bird = Grey Green Base Colour on Blue = White Base Colour on a Green Bird is Yellow. I shouild start a new topic on this... :ausb:
April 28, 200619 yr I think what I was trying to say is isnt violet a factor rather than a colour? arent the true colours sky blue, cobalt, mauve...??? I just feel that the link given above refers to violet as a colour... I'm confused, all these colour differences are starting to rattle my brain (Laughing out loud)

The violet "factor" is not welcomed in some aviaries but is in others. Violet will help deepen the colours of lutinos but will make a sky blue look colbalt...
