Posted April 20, 200619 yr I have 6 pairs of beautiful, very well looked after budgies that I adore. I have let them breed once so far this year,(one pair have laid again after rearing one lot). I have each pair in a breeding cage and are fed only the best of everything. I am curious how often other breeders let their birds breed. I have read you should only let them breed twice a year, what do other breeders think?? :hap:
April 20, 200619 yr Only two clutches in the row and then at least 6 months break before breeding again.
April 20, 200619 yr Two clutches in 6 months and then a 6 month rest is about right, it takes a lot out of them and then they need a good rest.
April 25, 200619 yr Up to a maximum of around 15 babies per year (otherwise mum loses too much of her stored calcium) spaced as the others above have stated.
