Posted April 19, 200619 yr Some of you know this and some of you don't so i'd better explain. Last September my mum got a guide dog. This caused LOTS of problems between me and mum because her airheaded dog, Buffy, thought Blinkie looked like a tasty snack. For ages she had to be held just so i could sneak Blinkie from his cage to the front room (about 2ft distance). Then she had to be held cause i was ULTRA paranoid about Blinkie being gobbled up by her when i put Blinkie back in his cage. Then she got tired of getting in trouble for looking at Blinkie so she started ignoring him entirely (i still insisted she be held if Blink was around). The past week or so i've been less worried, Blinkie and Ozzie can happily play on their gym while Buffy wanders around and even when Blinks goes spaz and is swooping everything and zooming around the room she hardly blinks an eye. So last night i decided to get calm, gentle Oz and see if she reacted to him if he was nearby (I chose Ozzie over Blinkie cause Blink is more likely to try to preen her or chase her around). And...well: Isn't it great, even when Ozzie fluttered away she just looked at me and then made a quick escape (we all know how terrifying budgies are ). This morning Ozzie even hopped on her head (while i was holding her) and she just looked at me like "get this little birdy off me please". I tried to get a photo but Ozzie fluttered off and when i went to get him Buffy sneaked over to hide behind mum and then wouldn't come near me for the rest of the morning incase i put a budgie near her again. :hap: She's such a dope.
April 19, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud)...... Silly pooch! She looks like she's definately getting used to budgies....is she turning her head away because she is scared of Ozzie or because (like my dogs)...they don't trust themselves to display self control and not bite the birdy! :(Laughing out loud):
April 19, 200619 yr Those beaks are sharp on soft ears!! Holly is the same, always staring at Bobby but bring him near her and tail goes down and she gets that scared look on her face (Oh no, don't bite me!) Sorry if this is a rude question, but is your mum sight impared or a guide dog trainer ??? (By The Way I love labs, Buffy is beautiful! :hap: airhead or not!) Edited April 19, 200619 yr by Riebie
April 19, 200619 yr Author Mum's nearly completely blind. Before she got Buffy she'd been using a white cane for AGES, she was trying to get over her hate of dogs and her denial of her need for a guide dog. She's much more confident since she's had Buffy (which is amazing cause she was SUPER confident even before!).
April 19, 200619 yr That is a great photo and yes these budgies sure do terrify the bravest of dogs... (Laughing out loud) Ours nearly flew into our dogs mouth.... don't know who was more scared us or the dog
