Is This A Good Idea?

Exposure to droppings should be minimized. A grate at the bottom of the cage should be used. Spraying the grate with non-stick cooking spray (PAM) will allow droppings to slide off the grate and into the bottom of the cage.

Does any one here spray the cage grate with non-stick spray? I was wondering if it was a safe thing to do.. or a good idea?

Personally it doesn't sound safe but in fact I don't know. Interesting.

I don't see how it would last long even if it is safe. Seems like a lot of hassle when all it takes is a quick swipe with a tissue. Budgie poop is so easy to clean off grates and most of it falls through anyway.

But as far as safety, I don't know. I just don't think it's practical either way. But that's just me! :D

can you imagine the sticky and greasy little feet you'll have if you did that?!?! most of my budgies love to crawl around the bottom on the grate, so I dont' think I'll be playing with them anytime soon if I spray that on.. but that's just me... safe or not safe...

poor little birdie comes in for a landing & slips right off the table due to slippery feet!!! (Laughing out loud)

sounds like a waiste of time to me!

shame on you Terri..hmm especially when Piper is grabbing your sock uh :D

I wouldn't think that it would be very safe. I remember hearing that a baby died when its mom sprayed a non stick spray while it was in the room. That might have been just a rumour but I don't like aerosol cans.

I just use a soft plastic pot scrubber and any stuck poop (there isn't much) just pops off my grates.

:ausb: You are right Shawna, it's not like there is a Canada Goose in the cage! :(Laughing out loud):
